So I picked this up today. It would be perfect if it was green, but I couldn't pass it up. I'm thinking of building something that would be a cross a between utility/expo/toy hauler. Not that I have any toys, but the boy is only 15 months old. Anyway, my biggest complaint about the trailer I have now is that I would never be able to get a quad in it. It's great for wheeling or camping, but it's tight on moving stuff. This is wider, but still a great width for camping.

Feel free to shoot any suggestions this way, I'm sure it will be a bit before I dig into it.

I think it's upside down to give you the perspective of what the actual bed would look like.

As for the using it as a trailer it self; build a frame under it and your good to go. we've done these a couple times on some old datson trucks of ours, allthough we only had modify the frame for a hitch.

A basic 2"x3" rectangular steel tube frame and a 3500 lb axle would make a killer utility trailer. You'll need to carefully lay out the attachment points for the body to the frame. I suggest getting a couple of sheets of plywood to set it on (flat surface) so the frame can be set on the trailer as you go. (If the body mounts are solid and are perfectly level you might get away with doing many of the welds right on the bed. Depends on how straight the bed is and if you can shim it level.)

Also, instead of a long A frame for the hitch, you could run a short one, or dispense with it altogether, and make a telescoping hitch like I did on my civilian Bantam. I have to remove the extension bar to get it really short because it hits the tub. But one designed to tuck under would not need to be removed. It would fully telescope.

BiO, I like that idea a lot. I am thinking about including a platform of some kind at the front of the bed for either a quad or with a battery box. I am thinking about making it so I could run either, just curious about the weight distribution of having a quad in the bed and near the tongue. I want to do this right and all have all of the time in the world for the planning stage as I don't think I'll actually start this for a bit.
