Love the vent windows. Any idea what the length of the load bars above the cab are?

Thanks!

My son asked for materials to build a rear bumper for Christmas, so we worked up a design and I got him the stuff. He's been working on it this past weekend. The main center section of the bumper is more or less put together. I am impressed with my sons fab skills already. He took a welding class at the high school but it was all stick welding. I haven't seen him use a MIG for quite a while and last time I did it was a little rough. He's definitely improved and he's been doing a nice job on this bumper IMO.

He wanted a design with good clearance, protection, would not get caught on rocks too much, had a hitch receiver and recovery points as well as some bedside protection. Main section is complete with the receiver incorporated. He's made templates for the frame mounting plates. Recovery points will be welded to the frame plates and pass through the face of the bumper for some shackles. Once that get completed and he can get it attached to the bumper, he'll work on the "sliders" for the bed protection. He's planning to make them look like the main sliders so that it looks like continuous protection that was all designed together. I'll share more when he makes more progress. But so far, not too shabby.

I see a nice roll of nickels.:)

A lot better than I could manage.:)

I'm impressed with the welding and design. Can't wait to see how it finishes out.

Nice truck @Box Rocket and how cool to have your son learn on it - and it seems he's picking up fast, I mean did you see those welds? I absolutely love that front bumper you designed.

This makes me miss my 1980 a little bit...

Thanks. It's been a fun project (with it's fair share of headaches along the way too) to do with my son. He's definitely learned a lot. We still need to tackle the 3RZ swap but winter weather snuck up on us and I can't take over the entire garage with this truck and the donor truck indefinitely while the swap happens. So it might have to wait until weather improves some.

I replaced some lighting on my 80 series and in the process removed the 42" lightbar I had on my roof rack. My son wanted it, (you know lightbars before lockers, haha) so we put it on the pickup. I guess I can't hassle him since it was free. :) It's essentially set up like I have my 80 now with some HID spots for distance and some LEDs to fill in the area in front of the truck with light. I've really liked that kind of light arrangement on my 80 and it made a huge difference on the pickup since to stock headlights are poor at best.

Lucky kid! :steer:

Hey @Box Rocket how'd that rear bumper ever turn out?

Not done yet. Got put on hold for a little bit because of my son's work. Just haven't had time to get back to it. But we're close. We have frame plates cut out for mounting it. Just need to get those welded up and a few more bits. Hopefully soon.

Sweet! I look forward to seeing it.

Also for some reason a lot of the pictures from the earlier pages of your thread aren't working. Total bummer!

Casualties of the Photobucket fiasco. All busted links now. Been migrating everything over to my Flickr account and haven’t got to the old stuff yet.

You can upload directly to the forum as well. Then links will never break.

Yep. I back my stuff up to Dropbox and another backup of photos to Flickr. Been stung once too many times by a crashed hard drive If it’s not something I have backed up or don’t really plan/need to them I’ll upload them directly. I’ll occasionally have some of those but most gets backed up elsewhere so I just link from there.
