The fuel smell with tons of tank pressure is normal - on extremely hot days when my tank is < 50% full, I have the same thing. It has to do with the evap system.
If your rear is sitting slightly crooked, it may be your accumulators/AHC system in general if you still have that installed. I can't give a proper diagnosis without a picture
Depending on WHY your coolant gauge is inoperative, you may be in for an easy fix. If it's your cluster itself, that's probably going to be a PITA to fix, might as well just get a ScanGauge II or Ultragauge and read coolant temp off of there.
The 05 LX is going to have all the updated parts, updated front diff which in turn makes it a little stronger, updated starter contacts which means that you shouldn't have bad contacts, etc.
There really isn't much to break on these rigs as long as you have done proper preventative maintenance, i.e. timing belt/water pump change.
It may be time to flush the AHC fluid as well, that generally helps to increase the ride quality.
I notice that you are from AZ, the earlier 100 series had AC condenser fans that still have bolt holes on our later 100 series, this may be something to look into to help keep your AC cool on extremely hot days. Another thing is your fan clutch in general, but that should be fine given it's a later year 100 + it doesn't have that many miles on it.
