what do I need to know???? I still own a 2004 taco 4d 4wd but plan to sell it and all of the stuff this truck has makes me a little scared to do so. So much to break? My taco was the greatest thing in my life. I never had an issue for 201k and this LX with 104k needs a right mirror, coolant gage is inop, has a fuel smell with tons of tank pressure behind the cap, and the rear sits very slightly crooked at N. Im very apprehensive but absolutely love this LX.
Thoughts? Advice?

The fuel smell with tons of tank pressure is normal - on extremely hot days when my tank is < 50% full, I have the same thing. It has to do with the evap system.

If your rear is sitting slightly crooked, it may be your accumulators/AHC system in general if you still have that installed. I can't give a proper diagnosis without a picture :)

Depending on WHY your coolant gauge is inoperative, you may be in for an easy fix. If it's your cluster itself, that's probably going to be a PITA to fix, might as well just get a ScanGauge II or Ultragauge and read coolant temp off of there.

The 05 LX is going to have all the updated parts, updated front diff which in turn makes it a little stronger, updated starter contacts which means that you shouldn't have bad contacts, etc.

There really isn't much to break on these rigs as long as you have done proper preventative maintenance, i.e. timing belt/water pump change.

It may be time to flush the AHC fluid as well, that generally helps to increase the ride quality.

I notice that you are from AZ, the earlier 100 series had AC condenser fans that still have bolt holes on our later 100 series, this may be something to look into to help keep your AC cool on extremely hot days. Another thing is your fan clutch in general, but that should be fine given it's a later year 100 + it doesn't have that many miles on it.

Congrat and welcome to the addiction!! :flipoff2:

Thanks for the quick and extensive info. Amazing vehicle and want to keep it that way or better. Now I need to figure out the rear entertainment.

If your question is how to operate the RES, run a quick search or 2 here on MUD and you'll get several threads with details. There is a separate RES manual, but it sounds like you didn't get it with the truck.

I disagree with the previous post that fuel smell is normal. A couple of additional searches on that will get you some threads on the evap system and fixes for fuel smell. Here is one of them from the forum FAQs.

Yikes. Now I need to add to my discoveries. It's humid here and I'm leaking evaporated water onto the pass floor. Coming from the box under the dash.
The drain may be clogged.
My rear entertainment has the Lexus DVD screen on the roof. I also have a DVD player on the right wall at the 3rd row seat.
I can play DVDs from the console onto the dash screen and get sound. The dash screen says "rear off" and does not give an option to turn it on. The roof screen says no disc when the disc is in the console.
To play discs in the roof TV, I have to put the disc in the far back player. Then I get no sound. I have a remote but it is pretty beat up.

Wait, I was under the impression that your fuel smell was happening when you undid your fuel cap, due to the excess pressure in the tank pushing gasoline vapor out through the filler neck. If you are smelling gas 100% of the time then there most definitely is a problem that needs to be fixed.
