here's the story on the crew cab.

A few weeks back I had the pleasure to become the owner of an old(80 ish) hunting crew cab chevy one ton truck.
This here jewel was for the total price of $450.00...

And yes, this included all 4 flat tires, god knows what kind of poop it had in there and not to mention the bad smell. the smell was terrible. it seem like some animal was living in there and pee all over the inside.
anyways, she's mine.

..Back in November, Thanks Giving to be exact, I saw the truck on Riviera, TX. about 1.5 hrs. north of Brownsville. I saw it at a small tire place. I saw the ph# and called.

The guy that I spoke with wanted $4000.00 for the whole truck and including all 4 flat tires folks!

I had to pass on this wonderful sale!

It was way off my budget, besides my wife was there, and she just said "NO"

...coming December 30, we went to San Antonio for the holidays.

I stop at the old tire place, this time to ask for the D60 only.

again, wife was w/ me and she wasn't too happy about it.

I asked the guy in the tire place about the truck.

He told me that the truck had gone back to the original owner.

I asked him, what about that ph# right there? (pointed at the sign)

when I called that ph# and the person that I spoke with said that he was the owner.

The guy(tire place) told me "no , that's not the real owner, he never pay for the truck, so the truck went back to the original owner," which later I was able to get a hold of him.

I talked to him, gave him my best offer, "$300.00" ( I am cheap what can I say)

I wanted to throw Fernando in the offer since he was misbehaving but wife disapproved, since he speaks English now.
(see 'lil Dixon!... less then a year and he's English spoken, how about your Spanish?)

darn it let me focus here.

It's got the front dana 60 missing on my 40

... not to mention a 350 V8, turbo 350 or 400(who knows) and a mighty np205
(I already got one on the 40).:grinpimp:

hard to believe but the engine works, we pour a few cans of carb cleaner and she started and stood on her own for a while.

..like I mentioned before, the D60 is going under my 40 but the million dollar question

do I need to reinforce the D60?

if I do which parts and brands are recommended?

is it OK to leave it stock?

I am running 37's for now, and the 14 bolt is digging like a mother f? .

I want to put some 39's or 40's later.

any help will be appreciated!

Good find Domek. Just put the thing under there and worry about upgrading later!!

What kinda critter you reckon pissed all over it JP??

Hell ... once you strip the axles out from under it you can park the damn thang in the front yard and sub-lease it out for housin' ...

Prob'ly get 4 or 5 Mes'kins to live in a big ol' crew cab like that. :grinpimp:

:flamingo:

Baw hahahahah!

You certainly have a bright mind sir! ...twisted, but you have one.

Never thought of subleasing it. There's an idea to recoup those $450.00

...as far as the critter, who knows?

there were a lot of gray-ish/ black feathers inside the cab, but that's the least of my worries.

I'll leave that problem to the future tenants. :grinpimp:

JP,

Nice score. Get the D60 running in stock from for now.

The only "upgrade" I can think about would be some 35 spline outers and drive slugs. CrMo axles are nice to have too, but may not be your budget right now.

Daaaannnggg!!! I think that is even uglier than anything Chris has brought home!!! And he has brought home some ugly sh*****..... Did you need a tetanus shot just from standing by it!!

At least the D60 is worth the price of the veh!!

Susan

Fire the sumbitch up! It may be less trouble than the Dodge!

There was no need for any tetanus shot, but I had to get rid of the pants and shirt that I was wearing that day I brought her to Brownsville. I actually had to steer the truck onto the trailer and I myself could not stand the smell. :grinpimp:

I knew this suggestion was going to come up... but to tell you the truth, I wouldn't want to be driving that truck on the road.

...That sumbitch is long!

... like it was said "concentrate on getting the D60 under the 40.

I know there's several ways to do this but I'll have to go for now w/ the cheapest one.

...And yes, that would be spring leaves for now.

Right now I have the 4" front springs flip w/ shackle reversal.

I know the outboardong of the spring hangers is in order.

question is, what springs can I use?

What you got Daryl?

What kind of leaves Springs and upgrades on the D60 itself if any?

Stock cruiser front springs with shackle reverse. Your 4" springs will be WAY high. Now, mine are getting kinda tired and need to be replaced but thats about 4 years of wheelin on 'em. Granted - I'm no the most "extreme" driver out there though.

My D60 is still all stock except for the detroit locker and some upgraded kingpin studs after a failure at K1 several years ago (this was mostly due to the way I had the steering set up in single shear at the time - I added some junk and put the bolts in double shear and no more problems)

Cool!

I remember that broken front!

As far as the driving style, I consider myself more of a conservative driver. I rather have fun while on the trails then work on the darn Truck

My take on this, if you had 42's and only broken the kingpin studs I should be OK w/ my 37's for now.

Sounds like a plan!

as far as the front springs, I have the springs from the 74. I'll have to go take a look at them and see they work out.

.

As long as Georg isn't spotting for you

George is OK!

Now on the other hand, our VP, Josh, suggested and asked me "What would Kowboy do?"

So I led the V8 ponies out and broke.

...by now I reinforced my driveshaft w/ a 1350 yoke and U-joint(had 1310)

I am building spare d-shaft and bringing spare parts.

I also added a track bar, So the rear should be good.

Spare driveshafts are a good thing......If I had enough of 'em a few years ago at Gray Rock I wouldn't be in the mess now:lol:
