As far as the springs go, I'd check with Kurt at cruiser outfitters (cruiseroutfitters.com) ... Great guy, cruiser guru. Very helpful if you have problems. Don't know about him shipping to Bolivia. Shoot him an email or call. He's also frequently on the board.

MAF will get you the springs, too, but you're SOL if you have a problem, particularly in Bolivia. The other thing might be to email ARB usa and see if there are any Latin American dealers. Might save you a few bolivianos in shipping :D

If we can help up here, let me know.

Thanks Spike. That's greatly appreciated. I'll look up Kurt and give him a call tomorrow. I'll try ARB as well, they might have something in Chile or Argentina :hhmm: If that's the case shipping within the continent is super fast and easy with the bus (flota) system.

If not I have a contact here that will ship anything from his brothers address in Miami. So I could get Kurt to send them there and my mate could ship them down.

Thanks for the help mate. I'm gonna need it as I start finding my way arond this truck that's so far impressed me very much. What the hell was I doing driving Tacomas for so long

Any recommendations on a brand if I go the shipping route from the States. Is it a pretty easy install? And how far off from the water temp is the reading? Today she was about 3/4 on the temp gauge. You've got me worried now :D I should be able to turbo it next month.

Thanks again, I really appreciate the help.

You'll find that the pyrometer reacts MUCH faster than the water temperature and that the two are not interchangeable, a high reading on one does not mean a high reading is imminent on the other.

I use Isspro pyrometers because I like the color coded dial, green = safe, yellow means "watch out" and red is danger.

welcome, nice diesel :flipoff2:!

how much is gas per gallon down there?
what kind of mileage are you getting at that altitude?
it looks like that one has a sunroof too???

Thanks for the welcome mate!

I filled up yesterday for around $2.00 a gallon. Not sure about the mileage just yet. I'll have to keep track of it. It's probably not too good. I'll let you know whe I have it figured out.

Yeah it's got a factory sunroof, but the motor needs repairing. That's the very last thing on my list of things to do though. Notice my missing visor? That's higher up on the list :)

BJay, welcome to the board! I spent a couple of years down in Bolivia when I was younger and really enjoyed it. I was mainly in the Santa Cruz and Trinidad regions, but I got up to Cochabamba a couple of times as well. I'd love to get back down there one of these days, but it won't be anytime soon due to my current job.

As far as your leaf-spring question, I have an FJ-62 and purchased my OME "heavy" leaf-springs thru 4-Wheel Parts. There are quite a few on this board that don't like 4-Wheel Parts because they cater to Jeep owners, but they had the best prices and free shipping (stateside) when I purchased my springs last year. I'll have to pull up one of my receipts to see how much I paid for them...

Best of luck, Joel.

bj envy...

:flipoff2: welcome mate!

a B E A U T I F U L rig!! esp. the high roof, diesel engine & jump seats....another envious peep here in southern California.

I remember seeing a bunch of 61s & 70s in Costa Rica...

I would do:
brakes to navigate those Bolivian roads better,
turbo for the extra hp going up those mountain inclines & for carrying all those passengers,
OME heavy-heavy set-up, esp w/ your front bumper, extra gear & passenger loads,
& a roof rack to top it off.

 & be safe!

Thanks for the pricing, very nice indeed.

Thanks Joel, I'll have a look into them. Bolivia's a beautiful country hey. I lived in Santa Cruz for 6 months but haven't been to Trinidad yet. Must be nice living in Hawaii :)

Thanks Jonathan. Brakes are definitively on the list. Thankfully I have disks up front. Just met a guy in town last week that's driving his 85 BJ60 around the world. He only has drums all the way round and he's had some close calls he said. He was drooling over my front brakes :p

Turbo's in the works today :bounce::bounce2::bounce:

I have my parts supplier looking into it as we speak. He's found me a brand new OEM 13BT manifold already... not sure about the turbo yet he's looking for an OEM one. We have a Garrett dealer here in town. Maybe that would be a good choice :hhmm:

As far as the roof rack... I'm not sure about that yet. Have you seen some of the roads here  I don't fancy being too top heavy. But when I get the larger tank and the auxillary tank, plus the 2 water tanks... I might have enough weight down low to compensate for a lower profile rack to store lighter stuff up there for trips if we need the space. I'll have to think about that. Sticky fingers are a problem here as well so security is a big concern with having stuff up there.
