I came across the Boston Mangler's 60 Slider mod in the tech section and noticed that that site was hosted by yankeetoys dot org. Any thoughts on how stout this is compared to frame mounted sliders? Was this rig local?

I posted a similar question on the main forum and the feeling seems to be split on how good this idea is.

Custom Stout FJ60 Side Sliders

Thanks,
William

Kevin Speicher (Boston Mangler) was an early member of YT before he moved to Cali. Great guy. I've done 4 sets of body sliders/rocker replacements. Its the only way to go in my opinion on a wagon as long as the body mounts are solid.

I had body mounted sliders on my 60. They worked great, and replaced my already smashed and rusting rockers so it killed 2 birds with one stone.

HOWEVER...I ran into issues when I started really wheeling my truck hard. There were a few situations where
I was super off-camber, and slid sideways into a large rock. The rocker did it's job, but in the process bent the whole body to the point where I couldn't open the door. (Again, this never became an issue until I had the truck locked, on 35's and was running all the hardcore trails)

Just my .02 cents

That's an important point to consider. The slider is supposed to protect the body from damage, not warp the body. Were you able to fix it so you could open the doors again? What did you have to do?

he sold it:lol:

I cut my rockers, welded in 2x4 box, and also built independent frame mounted sliders, still tweak the door sills on occasion in the big rocks..

like JR says, depends where you plan to go.

How did you pull that off? I was thinking about welding some 2x4 in to replace the rockers and then welding the 2x4 to the frame.

I was able to 'fix' it...I used a HiLift...though the door never lined up correct again...

Had to do a few times....

Bahh, Grace doesn't have any sliders and she is still tip top!

I wonder how much a frame tie in like Kling-on's would reduce force to the body?

Honestly I'm at a point where I have some rust coming through on the bottom of one rocker and I'm weighing fixing it vs cutting it out and going with the slider. I'm leaning to the slider route. It seems pretty straight forward and it going to be tougher then the original rockers.
