I continue to strike out in my search for a real auto body shop to work on my FJ40. Everyone has become a "Collision" center. I had a lead on a shop in central NC but they will not take any more projects for at least a year. I don't mind the wait, I just would like to get in line. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I am in the same position. Every shop I have talked with is in the same position. Boils down to this in my case.

To clean up a body, no metal work, prep and paint a 60 series they can turn $17-23K doing insurance work.

I am leaning to doing it in house in the future.

Anyone know anyone looking for a job, PM me

Have a real body shop in Durham. I have been very happy with the work they've done for me thus far. Little far from Charlotte though.

Same folks that did the work on your ford? They did a nice job for sure!

Anytime. They took this:

Fixed it up, and turned it into this:

Still very, very happy with the frame work, fender repairs and paint that they did.

There's a shop I found in Winston that I'm about to get some work done to my 80 with. Turns out the owner is building his own 62 in house. I'll post up with my experience when it's done in a few weeks. It's Ians Body Shop

@tstepp920 try Collision Corrections and Customs in Fuquay. The owner is restoring his 40 in the shop; and they did the hood and roof on my GX and I was very happy with them.

Were they able to paint match well? Laura's 3-series is starting to show some oxidation of the paint in the bumper.

I had heard about these guys. I think they are one of the few dedicated classic restoration bodywork guys in our area.

Also worth checking out or talking to...

B-Mac's Restoration (Raleigh) - Heads-up their homepage plays music, so check your volume.
Washburn Classic Restoration - I've also heard these guys are good too. They're often mentioned in the same breathe as other restoration shops in the area.

@tstepp920 I figure you aren't looking for a restoration place per se, but it might be worth striking up a conversation with these types of shops about the work you want done on your 40.

I think so, I can't tell where they painted and blended. I don't know if an expert could tell, but I'd be curious. Keep in mind mine is pearl white, so it is a 3-stage paint which is supposedly a bit harder to do properly...
