I've got an '83 40 with a roof that needs restoration. I plan to pull it of this spring and would like to find a shop with some land cruiser experience that does excellent work. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm near Burlington in central NC, but am willing to drive a few hours in any direction.

Thanks!

There is a guy off 501 where Duke Street and Roxboro Street intersect just outside of Durham that does real nice work, Metro Auto Service is the name I believe. I will see if I can come up with a number.

Rice Toyota in Greensboro has an excellent body shop. Not to far from you and they like old LC's.

Where'd you find a '83 40? Your lack of pictures is upsetting :)

wow.... missed that. I assumed it was a 60 when I saw 83!

Thanks for the suggestions! I've got a nice list going of people to talk to. Someone locally recommended Elite Auto Body in Chapel Hill as well. Rice sounds great as they're only about 30 minutes from me.

I found my truck online, out of Utah. Ever since I got my 80 series and started spending time in the Land Cruiser communities like MUD I've become obsessed with getting a 40 too. Searched for a while to find a "rust free" (nearly) rig. Its my first 40 and I'm hooked.

I'll take a pic tomorrow and post it up.

Try Scott Winfield at "The Paint Shop" on the south side of Winston-Salem. About 80% of what he does is restoration jobs, hot rods, AC Cobra, muscle cars, etc...the other 20% is the regular 'fender bender auto repair for insurance companies'. He painted my 40 and did a great job. Some of his muscle cars have appaired on the cover of some hot rod magazines. Not cheap but you get what you pay for.
