Any recommendations for sheet metal work (rear quarter panel and sill etc) for a FJ40 in the South Denver area? I apologize in advance if this is not the proper area to post. I am looking for a shop that will cut and replace the rust. Will have to wait for paint until I save up again. Thanks! Joe

If I were you I'd take the hardtop off as well as the ambi doors before having it dropped off at the shop. It will save you $$. You just need to tell the shop owner before dropping it off you'll do this to save on labor costs. You might also want to buy the 1/4 yourself since chances are the shop you take it to will not get any sort of discount, but will be sure to add the standard 25%-30% increase if they have to purchase it themselves.

I'm not trying to knock bodyshops in any way/shape/form. My father has owned(still does) one for over 40 years. If anything, a reputable shop will thank you for doing your homework and taking the extra time to make their job easier. With that said, definitely do your homework on the shop. You may not find a cruiser specific shop, but a quality bodyshop should be able to tackle this job for you.

Sorry I can't help you with a shop in your area. Hell, if you were local to me I'd help you out as long as you fed me and bought the beers once we were done for the night:grinpimp:.

Keep us updated:cheers:.

I wish I had the time to learn the skills for this project. If I did it myself, I imagine it would end up like the drywall I put up a few years ago for the baby nursery - the wall is up (but looks like S$!T...perhaps not that bad, but not properly done). I think of this as a form of artwork. - and I don't have the skills. I am not afraid of busting my knuckles and turning a wrench - I just don't feel qualified to work on the body. (hopefully one day I can learn how to weld/rivet/press). Thanks for the offer and the advice - I will certainly remove the top and doors! I also have been researching quarter panels at SOR and CC (also tubs).

Accurate Auto Body in Aurora is who Stevinson Toyota East uses, I think. They are A+ rated by BBB. I don't have any experience with them though. I'm trying to remember which shop absorbed Rocky Mountain Cruisers after they closed their doors last year but can't for the life of me. I think they kept some of the employees and would have experience with 40 series sheet metal but may be $$$. I'll try to figure it out and let you know.

Good luck
