hey all,

i posted this in International but was hoping for some extra help from the specialty group!

For my 60 (RHD) im gettin a 2" (50mm) body lift and a set of stainless steel extended brake lines 4" (100mm) over stock from a local shop.

i was all set and ready to install until i was reading the outerlimits.com forum (aussie 4wd forum, not nearly as good as ih8mud, but it is local!) and someone said a body lift means messing around with steering column angles or something (he's more confused than he made me). Is there any truth to this or similiar? or has he just got his wires crossed.

also do i need the extended brake lines while theres only a bodylift? or can i wait till i have new suspension?

im getting new suspension in less than a month, itll either be OME Dakars or Rockcrawler/Rancho 3", havent decided.

any help would be great as im goin wheelin beginning of 2006, and would really like the body lift done and brakes reliable!

Thanks for any and all help!!

if you dont mind going with a 1" body lift i know that works, i did it with no mods at all other than moving the fan shrowd. if you do a search in the 60 section you will find my write up.

i would do the brakelines now with the body lift.

I went with a 1 inch body lift on mine and all I had to do was adjust the radiator shroud. You do not need the extended brake lines until you do a lift since the distance between the axle and frame is not changing.

I personally would not go 2 inches on the body but heard they would work fine. Just keep an eye on the brake line going down to the frame. The lines do a couple of circle loops going down to the frame so they can flex but the body lift will flex them more. I would wait and not mess with the brake lines until you do the lift. Do a search I know some people have 2" body lift fine on 60's.

Goodluck

Any time you move an item that is mounted to the body ie.steering wheel away from the frame you need to make adjustments. Yes, if you put a 2 in body lift you SHOULD make adjustments to the steering shaft. or you can just booger it up and leave it alone. the shaft is designed to collapse in case of severe impact, by lifting the body off the frame it puts stress on the steering shaft and will eventually come apart.(its only held together with a shear pin. I'm not saying to avoid the lift ... just do it correctly.
good luck

I also did the one inch body lift along with the Poly bushings. Only thing I had to modify was the fan shroud. Here's a few pics of what I got and of what it looks like on.

It is easy to install a body lift. It does take longer than it would seem since is not easy access to all the bolts and the original bolts can be hard to loosen and get out. I think it is worth it to atleast replace the bushing with poly if you plan on keeping it for awhile.

I remember hearing that a 2" BL requires you to flip a couple of brackets under the radiator upside down. Do a search on the subject.

I did nothing when I put my body lift in. Just jacked up the body and put them in. Installing the lift is easy. Use a highlift and put a block of wood in the wheel well. Then jack. This is assuming that you have unbolted the mounts first.

What's the point of a 1" body lift besides to clear bigger tires?

Does it really help with that? Maybe it cuts down on 35" tires from rubbing?

School me.

you need it to fit 34s even. i have OME springs and shackles and the 1" body lift and still rub at full flex front and rear

also... the body lift is not so bad to install... check here:

It's not hard at all to do the body lift, specially if you have a Hi lift jack to jack her up. The main reason that I did the One inch lift was because I wanted to change out the old rubber body mounts with the poly bushing.

thanks heaps guys,

ill definatley be reading up on it a lot more now!

for those that are interested;

poly bushings are considered "non-structural" in Australia, so my bodymounts are from Snake Racing. This is what im getting, 2" (50mm) body lift that is made from solid alloy. There was an article in a 4wheel mag down here that was all about getting your ride road legal, and according to the laws, poly is no good here...

Just remember when you separate the body from the frame, you allow the frame to flex more than attended. A few years back with my 84 Runner, I went to an event and parked on the other side of a ditch after going thru it (no parking) while getting out of my rig a guy with a 2 door pathfinder w/2" body lift decided I had a good idea...so he attempted to do the same...there was a terrible sound when he was about half way thru the ditch. I had to see what that was so I walked over and.........the whole area behind the drivers and passengers doors before the side windows had acordianed badly, frame flex, body NO FLEX....Granted..it was a Nissan

Ok now I'm thinking about 1" BL and realy the new poly bushings, so where did you guys buy yours or buy te parts? Are teh bolts grade 5 or grade 8? Merry Christmas.
