They look pretty handy. I have seen them at the mines i work at. I dont have any experience with them though. Construction equipment is at a premium right now, prices are crazy. Try hitting the auctions.

I own a Bobcat skidsteer and excavator. I've played around with the Toolcats. They seem to be good for property maintenance. My opinion is along the lines of a Gator with attachments. I've used them on college campuses.

Being used to a skidsteer, I find them unwieldy. If you're trying to use a bucket with one it is obviously not a skidsteer and is less maneuverable than even a tractor. If you mainly want to use it as a Gator - travel around, carry things, plow snow - and also want some attachments for occasional landscaping or such, it could be worth it.

All depends on what you want to use it for.

Can't really speak to the prices other than that the first ones came out in 2002 and there aren't nearly as many of them out there as skidloaders or tractors or such. Also, they're more likely to be bought and used forever. So there are a lot fewer of them in the used market. You can find the oldest ones for under $20K, though.

I agree, that's how I ended up with Mules. Able to get up to campus buildings, fits on sidewalks for plowing, dependable, cheap(compared to a Toolcat) , full cab with heat, radio, fan, have a rack body on one and in the process of building an enclosed body for another.

Oh yea, no insurance, 3-4 gallons of gas a week, 4wd, locking rear. Just picked up a 2009 with 55 hours and full cab, with winch and plow for 9 grand. How can you beat that?

Im guessing they are a lot stronger than a side x side. They have to handle the attachments.

It is surprising how big the Toolcat is when you first see one. They're nearly three tons at operating weight. Compare that to about 3/4 ton for a 6x6 Gator.

If I found one, I think it could replace a few pieces of machinery around here.

4x4 Tractor w Loader and 3pt PTO for the mower.
Mini Truck - Side by side
4 - Wheeler
LandCruiser w Trailer for getting firewood

The list could go on as I try to convince myself the wife needs one.

My thoughts:

Mini Truck - Side by side Definitely
4 - Wheeler Not so sure - the 5610 is awfully big
LandCruiser w Trailer for getting firewood Replace an LC? Sacrilege!

The list could go on as I try to convince myself the wife needs one.

Heres a 2003 for sale near me... looks like they may corrode a little quick - admittedly this one is set up for snow duties and has a sander/salter mounted - they're asking $16k (Cdn)
... fwiw

mind you --if salt does this then I imagine the manure from your barn isn't going to help matters .....This unit is described as having 3600 hours .. they want another 7500 for the plow (total $23.5k for the package)

Maintenance makes a heck of a difference. I have an old 630 skidsteer. It sits outside most of the time. But I do take some time to hose it down every now and then - particularly after clearing snow due to the salt. It isn't going to win any beauty contests, but it looks pretty good for being about 30 years old and being treated like a piece of equipment. In comparison, I've seen 63x, 64x, 73x, and 74x models that are ten years newer (at least) that look like they've spent time at the bottom of an ocean.
