SOLVED - New $9 PCV valve resolved the blue smoke issue.

*********************************************************************

14 LX570 w/ 160K
Purchased from a Lexus dealer recently

When I started the vehicle in the morning, I have noticed blue smoke coming out from the exhaust.
It goes away when idling.
I also have quite a lot of old oil leak trace on top of driver side engine (see pic).

Recent Lexus service history stated the following info prior to sale:
11/2021
Service: *** OPCODE NOT ON
REPORT ***
Description: *** OPCODE NOT ON
REPORT ***~|~ ~|~ ~|~NO ISSUES
FOUND OTHER THAN AN OIL LEAK
OF UNKNOWN ORIGIN

What seems the problem?
Perhaps blown gasket? Worn out valve seals?
Bad PCV? ordered a new one anyway from a local Lexus dealer.
It has new coils (OEM) by previous owner and the spark plug looked great but changed w/ OEM.
The vehicle looked well maintained overall.
Any thoughts?

You seemed to be getting some help with your 12/11 thread on this. Is the blue smoke on start up new since then?

Blue smoke at start up after sitting, that clears quickly is typically a sign of leaking valve seals. They allow oil past the seal down the valve and into the combustion chamber.

Oh my... is it costly to repair or complex task?

Not sure... I just found out when my daughter said something about pretty blue smoke yesterday morning :(

I have not done them in a land cruiser. Most ohc engines are a pain in the ass

So, I had this nasty and sometime massive blue smoke coming from the exhaust when starting in the cold morning.
Changed the old PCV valve with a new $9 Toyota PCV valve and blue smoke is completely gone!
Everything is working smoothly and no more blue smoke or burning oil.
The old PCV valve isn't that bad but I guess bad enough to cause the added pressure to the engine.
I would highly recommend to change your PCV valve even it's not completely bad or if you had it for awhile.

The old PCV valve isn't that bad...
How did you determine this part?

Either way, glad you got it figured out. Nine dollar part!

Not the accurate way but you can shake it and visually inspect the end.
The new one moves freely but my old one wasn’t so I replaced it… no more blue smoke!
