Dear BRC Action Alert Subscriber,

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Carson City District--Sierra Front and Stillwater Field Offices, are seeking public comments to identify issues and concerns that should be analyzed the Carson City District Resource Management Plan (RMP) and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).

The BLM is also seeking nominations for Areas of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC) and information on lands that may possess wilderness characteristics. A Notice of Intent to prepare the RMP and conduct an EIS was published in the Federal Register on February 24, 2012, formally opening a 60-day public scoping period, which will end April 29, 2012.

The planning area is located in portions of 12 counties within two states (Washoe, Storey, Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, Churchill, Mineral, and Nye counties within Nevada, and Sierra, Alpine, Plumas, and Lassen counties within California), and encompasses approximately five million acres of public land.

Public scoping meetings will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., on:

March 13, at the Fallon Convention Center (100 Campus Way) in Fallon, NV
March 14, at the Lyon County Library (20 Nevin Way) in Yerington, NV
March 15, at the Mineral County Library (First & A Street) in Hawthorne, NV.

Additional public scoping meetings will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., on:

March 27, at the Carson Valley Inn (1627 US Hwy 395 N) in Minden, NV
March 29, at the Carson City Library (900 N. Roop Street) in Carson City, NV
March 28, at the Hyatt Place (1790 E. Plumb Lane) in Reno, NV

For once they are having a meeting inr Reno at a time when most of us may be able to attend. Lets make as big a showing as we can.

IM THERE!!!
sorry I slacked on posting this dan!!

So do we have a head count for this?

Chicago and I plan to meet up at the Asian Noodle shop next to Sushi Pier in the Costco shopping center before hand to get some dinner. Anybody who wants to join us is welcome. I'm going to try to be there by 3:45.

It was interesting, more like an open house than a meeting. They had stations set up around a room, each station covered a different land use subject. Recreation, fire control, water, hunting, etc.

Pretty much each BLM district is mandated to make a written outline of their global land use management philosophy periodically. They are looking for input from the public on what this document should contain.

I'll post up more info after I've had a chance to read the hand outs I picked up tonight. All of it is probably available on-line.
