Oof. That's rough. Cheaply painted flares and wheels. Rust on underside as evidenced by the bolts and brackets I see. "No HG done" at 199k miles.
Ain't paying 5k for that one.
Not every 1fz will blow a HG I don't think. At least I hope.

My bet is: They will eventually. The original HG material was not designed to withstand the heat that the heater hose generates at the rear corner (driverside) of the block. Hence the "Number 6 Blow-by". There really is no kind of preventative maintenance to be done, with the exception of unbolting the metal tube or even better completely eliminating it with a rubber hose. That would allow the other-wise badass motor to then possibly never have a HG failure. But 9 out of ten HG failures is this #6 blow-by.

Austin, if you haven't ever blown the HG, get high-heat hose and run it from "PHH" block exit location to the firewall, that will eliminate the stock metal tube that causes the failure.

Interesting. I'll have a look under the hood. That's the first I've heard of the heater hose causing it. Water temp is ~210ºF. I'd think block and head temp is at least that high near the combustion chamber.

It may have been camp chatter around a fire one night, but yeah, someone a lot more knowledgable than me was saying the failure of that location is due to that pipe. The pipe apparently is not present in non-US 1FZFE's and they rarely had HG failure.
That pipe is for the rear heater fan under the seat and only a US market item.

I thought it was the EGR pipe that was the issue.

DANG. You might be right. But how do you eliminate that?

....but that's the PHH circled. ???

The EGR tube makes more sense with them not blowing outside the US...
I think I got my "fixes" crossed. Since I have a hose that eliminates the metal tube and goes from the block to the firewall.

My b! That ones my b!

Yes that's the phh circled I stole the pic off the net.

Disable a metal tube?
The block off plate is for the 3FE, no? Never seen one for a 1FZE
Disable the egr and no hot gases travel through the tube. The tube isn't really the problem, it is the hot exhaust gas traveling through it.

Egr tube is right behind the phh in that pic. I think be no had a good pic of a block off plate a while back, but you would pretty much have to pull the engine to get it installed.

makes cents

if it don't make doll hairs then it don't make scents

what if you wrap that tube in exhaust tape? would that do any good?

Just passed a nice looking navy 100 going down Columbania with a Yakima basket and BFG's on it I've never seen before. If I had to guess its a Samford student.
