Hope someone may be able to help me here please.
I have an old 1992 MWB FRP that originally came with a 1HZ and an H440F 4 speed auto. I finally gave up trying to get the old 1HZ working with the turbo (kept destroying pistons) so I had a 1HD-FT engine fitted which solved all my problems - or so I thought. A couple of weeks ago the transmission destroyed itself (broke the input shaft and in the process destroyed pretty much most of the front of the transmission) and I am now trying to work out the best option going forward. I have spoken with an automatic specialist who pulled the unit apart and he feels that the engine is putting out too much torque for that trans and would likely do it again if I repair the box. When we pulled the trans apart it was obvious that the TC was getting VERY hot so if I am going to rebuild my current unit I would need to go with all the trick bits to lock up in 3 and 4, as well as the 2nd & 3rd gear upgrades as well as a billet type TC.

It is putting out about 125HP at the back wheels so not really a lot of tuning has been done as I need reliability not ridiculous power. The vehicle is fitted with a PTO winch which gets used very frequently on the farm to clear fallen trees, pull stock out of mud, and a variety of other things. I do tow very regularly and with two grown cattle on the trailer the weight I am towing is close to the max limit of 3500kgs. I have thought about a 5 speed box conversion but am told that the 1HZ box is not as strong as the 1HD-FT units and due to spline differences the conversion is not that easy. Has anyone got any experience they could share as to their thoughts on what I should do please? I need the PTO and I understand the H150 cannot take a PTO?

Those autos can take a fair bit if you can keep them cool, try adding the biggest oil cooler that will fit.. I would use low range more often in the paddocks and keep it out of top gear on hills.
Wholesale Automatics make beefed up versions of the auto.

Thank you roscoFJ73. I imagine a more robust TC may help keep things cool? Thoughts?
