Got a check engine light and a rough running motor after leaving the Expo. Limped into a Payson and had a scan completed at Auto Zone. Code was for a cylinder 5 misfire. They had a coil pack in stock so I decided to replace. Had a bugger of a time removing and when I did it was covered in carbon. The spark plug wouldn't come out and it wouldn't tighten either. The rig was loaded on a flat bed and taken to the dealer. Anyone else seen this in a 100?

Have had no issue with mine since. The problem is the FI keeps pumping fuel in cylinder so when you put new Chinese coil is caused a fire in cylinder....or that is what mine did. That is why now I carry an extra coil and have a code reader so when happens again I replace with oe coil and pull plug and let some fuel evaporate in cylinder before restart

Props to Camelback Toyota in Phoenix. They installed a Helicoil and fitted a new spark plug. It was the first time they've seen this issue in a 4.7

Glad you got it resolved!

I have got to get motivated and throw a couple coil packs in my truck.
