BJ74 right rear door inside handle , US replacement - Metal-tech 4x4

My BJ74 came with the right rear inside door handle in 4 pieces in a plastic bag when I bought the truck. I was told “good luck” finding it State side. The parts look to have been glued a number of times, yet failed each time. At first I thought I would have to machine one for it. However the more I looked at it, I realized it looked familiar. I opened the rear hatch of my LX450 and looked at the inside rear door handle looks a match. I took it off an it fits the 70 door dead on, even the keyway matches up.

The 70 door handle used a counter sunk screw, whereas the FZJ80 used a small bolt. The 80 bolt transfers the 70. I used a new 5mm x 0.80mm button head stainless steel bolt along with a #10 stainless washer. Just looks nicer.

Ordered up a new handle from Toyota, and tossed it on.

Score! Thanks, the PO on my 70 replaced it with a small vise-grip. This is much better.

For any other parts - use the DIY electronic parts catalog and use the cross parts number search to see which North American models shared the same part - if so you can get it at your local Toyota dealer.

In fact immediately after making my above post I have decided to order the billet aluminium handle :) Little pricey but its worth not having to cringe everytime somebody other then myself goes to open the back door

people tend to break these easy.
General rule is if it doesn't release easy it
the mechanism needs to be cleaned and re-grease to prevent it breaking.
Usually a passenger or someone who doesn't drive the truck reefs on it causing it to break.

Did you go to a dealer or online? If online what site? I need this same part for my 78.

I got the OEM part from a local dealer. The alum. jobs are on various websites and e-bay. The alum looks nice but I want to keep the plastic unit as a fuse since its used as a pull handle on the 70. Rather brake a plastic handle than the mech. inside. I have a habit now of pulling the door open off the frame, however cant always control what my kids or others do opening it.
