I'm in British Columbia and own a 1989 BJ74 LX.

I need to replace the front and rear brakes as well as the knuckle bearings. I've recently done a few hours of research and feel I could do the job myself.

Since the BJ74 was never offered here I am wondering what CDM Toyotas I can cross reference to at the local parts store. No-one seems to know about the 7X series here.

If anyone has a brand and part numbers they'd recommend or warn against for parts, grease and oil, that would be great as well.

Thanks :)

x2 on the 60 series parts. You will find that a 73/74 series is almost a 60 series in a different shaped body .The electrical system is identical and they even use the same schematic from 84 -90.

As far as disc pads and shoes, any reputable brake company will do. I usually use bendix as its cheap and works well.
For rotors Ive used DBA and for drums I used chinese ones for $20 each which worked well.
Ive also used chinese rotors and they went ok for the 60000klms I had them on the vehicle.
I would never pay the dealer's price of 2-3 times the cost of aftermarket parts.

Semi-related question...

Are all (4) of the Tie rod and Relay rod ends for the BJ74 the same as the 60 series as well?

Or are there differences in the threads/taper/etc?

Or do they cross reference to something else?

Tie rod ends cross over to the 60 series, part 45046-69105
