Hi, I have a BJ74 import model auto turbo diesel

Just speaking with a few people regarding the gearbox. It's currently not going into lockdown, so I think its something to do with the torque converter not working?? Whatevers wrong with it, it means that my away trips aren't economical.

Also something i need to find out. My gearbox doesn't have any sort of overdrive button (that im aware of). Im not sure if it was modified when being imported (to Australia). What is the story with the auto gearboxes. My car is a 1987 year.

Thoughts? cheers.

If it's all stock for that year, you have the hydraulic A440; No electronics, so no button.

Heats an issue, and if your TC is not locking up, even more so. One fix if the transmission is fine is an Extreme Valve Body and Extreme Torque Converter. But 1st do what your doing...your research, and also check out some local auto transmission shops close to you that have experience with the A440.

Do a search of all forums in MUD with the keywords "Valve Body", Torque Converter, A440, for some good reading and background info.

Rodney from Wholesale Automatics is considered the Guru with these transmissions, and is on your side of the world. A Google search will get you into other forums where there is lots of talk and information from Rodney about the A440.

Also check out the the 3FE Yahoo list which will have tons of posts and information by Rodney on the A440.
