WOW - that's even rustier than mine was! If you're going to use the original flange then cut a stub about 2"- 3" long (if the original dump pipe is still solid) and then buy a reducer 2.5'ID to 2" ID. Slip it just over the stub and weld it on. It will take a bit of "persuasion" although I can't remember which way. If you try to weld to the flange it will be tough to get enough clearance for the nuts on the studs. After that just start piecing it together. Hopefully you have the original hangers still on the frame and you can re-use all that stuff.

Good luck!

Thanks Graeme.

If I'm going 2.5 the whole way then should I just weld the 2-3'stub off the flange onto the new 2.5 pipe? Or get a sleeve that will go over both connecting the two?

I do have the factory hangers though I'll only be using one. I will have to buy/make up another one as I'm not following the entire old system.

I slipped the reducer over the stub and just tacked it as it was a very snug fit. The stock pipe seems to be some kind of double wall so it was a bit tricky to weld - probably just as easy to clamp it on which would allow a bit of wiggle room when fitting.

Not sure if this helps, but to get a 2.5" Flange to fit my factory 1uz header flanges I just got a piece of thin cardboard, pushed it up against the header flange, then cut it out. making the centre hole 2.5" instead of the factory 2"(if that) then took it to a laser cutting shop and got it laser cut. Was very cheap and ran the 2.5" exhaust from there.
Heres a picture, of the flanges cut.

I bought a BEAUTIFUL stainless flange and 3" dump off ebay from a 7MGTE (Supra) for my BJ74.

I still have it...as the 13B-T is too close to the firewall for the dump. The engine needs to sit forwards about 2", or it needs to be modified.

So basically, it's a big sweeping 3" dump which sticks out too far.

Here it is:

Looks to be the wrong orientation for a 1hz or 1hd-t

In his earlier post he stated it was for his BJ74 back in the day. I wish I could use it, but it obviously doesn't fit.

That should fit on my 74 anyway

I found a shop in Leduc, Alberta that will straight pipe for me for $100. I'm going to do this and see how it sounds, and if its unbearable I'll slap a short bottle muffler on with some clamps come springtime. I'll be sure to update with pictures.

Thanks for all the input.

When you getting it done? Please post pics, I am doing a 3 inch on a friends BJ71 soon, would like to get some more ideas on mounting. There is no brace from the exhaust to the bellhousing as on the 3B, I was thinking it may be a good idea to add one? Flex pipe before brace or after?

Sadly, the formal repair will have to wait until spring. I did however manage to wrap gaping hole in aluminum duct tape, then regular duct tape, then another layer of aluminum tape. I'm hoping this will hold it until the coveted tax return gets here :).

Lumpy will that dump bolt right up to the 13bt turbo? My friend has a BJ71 with the 13bt, trying to figure out the best solution here. I also have one of those dumps from a supra...
What will the orientation of the dump be once bolted up to the turbo?
Wanting to put 3 inch pipe on. Is the flange big enough to weld a 3inch pipe on?
Or will I have to make a new dump straight off the turbo (that is what I did for mine)?
If anyone else has more pics of a custom exhaust on a 71 or 74 that would be great!
Thanks!

I ordered a flange for the ct26 from here. Once it comes in the mail I'll source all the parts and keep everyone posted. Going 2.5" with a bottle muffler exiting infront of the right rear tire....I think.

That is the flange I was going to order if I did it again. Did you get my parts list? I meant to add you will probably want to order a new gasket between flange and turbo off ebay.
The one I ordered a few years ago was about $5 or $10! And much beefier than the original Toyota one we took off.

Yup I got the list, thanks! I bought a gasket kit last year when I did the exhaust manifold gasket and I remember replacing the turbo flange one, i'm hoping it is still in good shape. I'm doing the exhaust, knuckle rebuilds, tie rod ends and relay rod rebuild, also installing my pyro and tuning it all in the next month. Stoked.

Picked up all my parts.

Bottle Muffler, Flex coupler, 2.5inch pipe x 5ft, 4x 2.5 inch u bends - $240 - Tim's Muffler Leduc
Flange - $35 shipped - ebay
Elbow - $10 - Flocor Edmonton

One more exam tomorrow and I'll be putting this together on monday! Gonna try and re-use existing hangers, if not I'll pick some up during the process.

Hoping to do it all within $300.

I'll post pics as they come along.
