hey guys, i think i know the answer to this question but just want to make sure I'm not missing anything.

i obtained a "rebuilt" mine truck spare injection pump in a deal. it's rotary style for a 3B2. very clean with plugs on openings and various yelow paint marks on it, definitely looks like a mine rebuild as the owner stated. different number but it is identical to my previous pump in my 73 besides the 12 volt shutoff instead of 24 and no diaphram thing for cold starts.

so long story short i switched that stuff over and installed the pump but it's a no go. so first i took out the shutoff valve and spring thinking that may be screwed and not letting fuel in. still nothing. then i thought maybe fuel delivery problem. so i bi-passed the tank and tried a jug of diesel straight to the intake hose. i've got the lines off the pump but still absolutely nothing coming out of any feeds when i crank it over.
can a seemingly new pump be so screwed that no fuel comes out of any openings??

is it time to send both my pumps away or am i missing something?

It may have been sitting a long time and is a bit sticky inside.

The 12V fuel cut won't tolerate 24V and you will need to use the 24V unit.

Are you getting fuel flowing out of the pump via the return line when you hit the primer or crank the engine?

Take the glow plugs out for faster cranking, put a screwdriver on the solinoid body and your ear and listen for click when ignition is turned on ( you have to use the 24 v) To speed the suction from the tank apply a vavuum to the return outlet, or suck with a hose until fuef arrives. There is only a small vane lift pump and as the injection pump is lubricated by the fuel it has to be full. When this is done loosten the delivery unions at the injectors and crank the engine until fuel leaks out, thghten unions, install glow plugs and start. Air in the fuel will prevent the lift pump from working and gravity will have returned the fuel when the lines were disconnected. Note...when the engine starts it will be rough and cough white smoke at first and smooth out. I am assuming that you have set the injection timing correctly and so forth, I have vast experience with these pumps and this is as common as dirt.
 
well things didn't go too well :(
this is what i tried. first i took out the plunger from the shutoff valve to eliminate that completely. (even though it's working fine, yes swapped in 24v one)
then i applied air pressure to the tank thru the tank return line while i cranked it over. instead of coming out the injection pump feed lines, diesel dripped out a seam in the side of the pump :P and none came out the pump return line either.
So, i think there are 2 conclusions-
1. the seals were already gone and the pressure showed the problem, or
2. the pump was just stuck from sitting and the pressure i applied destoyed the seals?
Either way it's bad news i suppose.:crybaby:

oh and as far as timing, the old pump was set directly on the marks on the side of the pump. i set the new pump exactly there again.
