I have an 88 BJ73 with a 3B 5 speed and I am not getting the front driveshaft to engage in 4low. If I shift the transfer case into 4high the front tires get power but if I drop it into 4low I am only getting rear axle power. The 4x4 shift light is engaging in the dash. Anyone dealt with this before?

Did it just start doing this? Have you got under and looked at the shifting mechanism to see what its doing?
Do you have a button or full manual set up?
Have you looked a the trouble shooter in the factory service manual?
Some more background info is helpful.

Yes this just became a problem. I put it in what I thought was 4L and attempted to drive into sand. I immediately noticed that only the rear wheels were spinning. I shifted into 4H and got myself back onto good solid ground. This is a manually shifted tcase. The shifting linkage all looks ok. I do not have the factory service manual.

You need to watch it while someone else does the shifting. Although Im a little perplexed.

It could really only be the shifting mechanism or somethig broken inside

Must be a link problem, 4wd and low/high ratio are seperate sections of the box. Get underneath, and check out the link operation. At the front of the transfer case where the shifter pushes and pulls a shaft in/out is the 4wd selection

I adjusted the linkage and have not had any luck. I will probably pull the case apart this weekend.
