silicone grease is the way I kept the needle bearings in place for assembly when I did the CV-DC shafts on my Broncos years ago.The fun part is putting the assembly back together without messing up the needle bearings inside the ball.
Just curious, what year/model/configuration of 70's got a DC driveshaft? Front only, (like early FJ60) or rear also (like some minitrucks)?
No idea and I was surprised this rig has it as I believe my 77 and old 73 have regular driveshafts (and all the other 70s I've been under). I've read that people put them in after a lift to cut down on vibration. The rear driveshaft is a regular one. I don't know the history of my 71 but at some point it got a new suspension, complete with axle shims (installed backwards - next project is to fix that). Since this shaft is a bit long it's a guess that it would've come out of a 60 series at some point?
