Working on the front driveshaft. Does anyone know how to get this bearing out? image-3963404503.webp image-579055000.webp

Pry the seal out with a flat blade, Pry from the ball side/inside. Dont pry on the outside of the seal. and then turn the bearing sideways and use two small punches or screwdrivers to pop it up and out. A bit of a bitch but youll get it. Try not to marr up the seal surface, put some tape or something on it..

The fun part is putting the assembly back together without messing up the needle bearings inside the ball. I cursed at mine for hours. Ha
Have fun!

I had an incident where i got a u joint with 2 different size bearing caps or the yoke holes were 2 different sizes.. 1 size fit the yoke that bolts to the t case flange and the other size fit the centre yoke. I couldn't figure out why i couldnt get the caps to go in, and i realized either the caps were wrong on the u joint or the yoke holes were 2 different sizes after cracking the yoke trying to press them in. Ended up using 2 used caps that were in good shape that came off the old joint. Threw me for a loop.
Just something to be aware of. Not sure if it was an isolated incident or maybe someone else ran into this....
My DC shaft is off an 83 bj60

Thanks all for all the help. Repair is done. Driveshaft is back in the truck. Perfect timing because it snowed today and the commute will likely suck tomorrow.

Anyway, here are the parts we used:

Just curious, what year/model/configuration of 70's got a DC driveshaft? Front only, (like early FJ60) or rear also (like some minitrucks)?

No idea and I was surprised this rig has it as I believe my 77 and old 73 have regular driveshafts (and all the other 70s I've been under). I've read that people put them in after a lift to cut down on vibration. The rear driveshaft is a regular one. I don't know the history of my 71 but at some point it got a new suspension, complete with axle shims (installed backwards - next project is to fix that). Since this shaft is a bit long it's a guess that it would've come out of a 60 series at some point...?

the h yolk takes a 16510 the slipyolk takes a 1612 the new pathfinders have the exact same parts as a toy but the caps arwe 15 tho smaler and nobody makes them iv'e had to machine the caps to fit a good lathe pays for itself

That's what I thought: there would be no need for DC in 70's. Haven't seen many 70s, but didn't recall seeing a stock DC in any of them.
