So I fixed up the 70 with a new rad from cruiserdan and a new t-stat from 4 wheel auto and everything was running great again.
Then yesterday as I was pulling out of my driveway it sputtered out like I ran it out of fuel..fuel gauge said a little less then 1/4 tank so I thought maybe my gauge quit working and I was out . So I poured in 5 gallons and tried to bleed the plug ..nothing , so I pulled the plug on the water seperator..nothing ,then I decided to pull the fuel line under the truck near the tank and still no fuel!!
For some reason it wont let fuel out of the tank all the sudden.
Has anyone ever seen this before or have any suggestions?
I am ready to pull the whole tank down and investigate but before I get into it I wanted to see if anyone has any input .

thanks

Brian

Not sure where you live - but if it is a cdn truck then the steel line on top of the tank probably has rusted through. Any air getting into the system will cause it to do that.

Regards

I am living in USA but the truck is from Canada
Rusty steel fuel line huh? ...Ill check it out
wouldnt a sign of that be fuel leaking out?
or would it pull in air and just quit working?

Depends on where it rusts out. If it is up high on top of the tank (Where no rustproofing seems to get to) then it could do that to you. Try to reach your hand up and follow the lines.

If you are priming the pump and air is coming out - and you have fuel in the tank - then it is getting air from someplace - check all the lines from the pump back.

Good luck!

Yup, i'm with "Ishobie" on that one... Had the same issue with my 70, replaced everything from the pump back, only to find out it was the feed from the top of the tank that was rotted out. Welded a new section of steel tube onto it and it was done.
Cheers!
Good luck.

OK
so I dropped the tank and found that the 90 degree steel tube coming out of the tank was a little bit cracked and after pulling the tube and screen out all together and pressure testing it found that it was leaking out a minimal amount of air ...repaired the tube with some epoxy and will put the tank back in tomarrow.
But now heres the real mystery...just last month my HJ60 started leaking fuel out of the top of the tank area and after dropping that tank found there to be leakage in that same area but more so around the seal. This never caused poor fuel delivery... just leaking fuel . So why would the HJ still pull the fuel even if it leaks , but the BJ stopped delivering the fuel
(THIS IS ASSUMING THAT THE CRACK IN THE STEEL TUBE WAS MY PROBLEM WE WILL SEE TOMARROW)

Dunno, but I would have a new tub welded in place - not just epoxied - you might get stung on that repair.

Regards

so the epoxy didnt hold and the crack is actually worse than I originally thought
The tube is really flexing back and forth on the 90 degree part and looks like its about to just snap off. If I snap it off where it wants to break then it will be very short to try to weld it .. even with a sleeve
Can I buy this part somewhere? with the complete tube and gasket with screen filter that goes in the tank
Is it called the fuel sending unit?
If I can buy a new one I would just do that as I am thinking of selling the truck soon possibly and wouldnt want to see this happen to someone else again anytime soon

Any help is great

Thanks

Brian

Any good gas tank shop should be able to fix that up no problem. Chances are that there are more problems with the tank anyway, so maybe locate a new one or have it inspected and overhauled - do it right - or it will cost you more in the long run.

regards

I agree
I want to fix this right and finally be done with it
my source for diesel cruiser parts and info is very limited here in California
If I try to just replace that part any idea what it is called or a proper ID # or part #?
If I cant locate it I may have to get the whole tank eh?

COntact G and S - through the link on this site - they probably have what you need.

Regards

still no fuel

So I got the feed tube from G&S and installed it and put the tank back on with all fuel lines hooked up and still no fuel
I am confused
could my injector pump have failed or could something have clogged my fuel system , because my HJ 60 now is doing the same thing
I have been running biodiesel in them every now and then but right now they are both full of diesel from different gas stations
Has anyone else seen this problem or had similar issues with fuel system delivery?
Any help is GREATLY appriciated
It sucks having both my rigs down at the same time!

Thanks

Check to see that the fuel is not getting to your filter or (depending on what you have water trap) then check bleeder on pump and primer to see if fuel is getting that far. If not then probably cloged pickup(but I think you already checked that) then check the line starting form the tank, depending on model there should be rubber hose sections to check. Also you can disconnect before pump and check with vacum pump see if you can pull fuel from tank.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Michael
