ill try and keep this short and sweet...i buy this bj70 1985 from a kid on vancouver island...its not the 60 i wanted but i love all landcruisers and he was looking to trade for a diesel pickup which i happened to have...needless to say we hook up and inspect each others vehicles and im so excited thinking that this is the one i dont look as close as i should(partially because im a trusting guy and think everyone else is the same...HA). i get home and after a day or so of checking things out i realize that he totally lied to me and there is alot more work than i am ready for right now(im a stay at home dad and use this to transport junior around) so i cant have it on blocks for a week while i do things to it nor unsafe to drive....so the deal is it has 275,xxx km on it...the engine isnt leaking oil and seems fine(a bit sluggish)nor does it burn any... the body is 6/10...the frame is good...but it needs just about every seal and gasket replaced underneath and smells like gear oil all the time...ive started to do all the usual stuff to it checked and replaced all fluids fliters...brakes are new...etc. it seems like the kid just didnt maintain it...its a rad unit i put new tires and rims(interco thornbirds...i know i know..i got them for a steal, it was better than the what was on it and moneys tight so...)overall id say its a 6/10 im wondering what this thing might be worth and did i get hosed...and anyone want to buy or trade for a 60

thanks
jason

It depends on what your trade was worth.
You might be better off getting a beater and fixing the BJ70.
Unless you spend up big, any Canadian diesel 60 wont be much better than what you got ,maybe worse

its not that its a piece of **** i wouldnt of got it...i was expecting some work...but i would rather be spending my money adding to a nice 60 rather than spending on stuff that should of been done anyways....i surf craigslist and see this 1987 Toyota LandCruiser FJ60 4 x 4 and think hmmm...sell the 70...whore myself for the rest and when the time comes convert it to diesel?
i dunno we will see...thanks for the support and replies

jason

Believe me you dont want one from Ontario it looks rusty.Keep the 70 re seal it keep it and enjoy it.

out of curiosity...what would be the price dif between a 60 and 70 of similar condition?

well if it's just a case of finding that the 70 is too small for you then sure find a decent 60.

but selling it because of a few seals and a minor maintenace doesn't make much sense to me. even if it didn't leak when you bought it, it's a cruiser, it'll be leaking from somewhere within a year.

here's a solid hj60... https://forum.ih8mud.com/vehicles-trailers-sale-wanted/233198-87-hj60-sale.html

ok...im keeping it...this is the cruiser God intended me to have so I'll just have to deal with it...

thx for all the input

and wasted time...ill remember to take my medication next time

i got the air seat working nice...and went for a little late night offroading on some construction sites by my house and it made it worth it...plus it wouldnt be much fun if i got one that was mint...id have nothing do

ok...it is for sale

the woman has helped me decide(lol) that this isnt the right cruiser to have right now...so here we go...shes had magically pulled some money out of the swiss bank account and we might get an 80? this hurts a bit inside but i'll get over it... where does one post an ad around here?

Post it in the classifieds(see the middle orange box at the top)

Im sure you will be happy with the 80 ,make sure its a diesel:D

If I had the money and could figure out how I could get it imported here (Hawai`i), I would buy it. Otherwise, your post on the mud classifieds and craigs should be good. :)

Call Carco, out of Bellingham. They can pickup the rig for you in Vancouver, import it legally and ship to HNL out of SEA. Probably cost you around $1500 plus purchase cost. These units are awesome-I had one for a couple years.

I'm looking for a 70. Did we figure out a price yet?
