Hi all,
1985 BJ70 295,000kms, original clutch. Pulls well, just towed 500kg load 1000km, not for the first time. Clutch makes a slight sighing noise that have not been able to remove by adjustment. More serious is changing up into 3rd - getting the occasional crunch. Tried double-de-clutching but not successful. Starting to get that new clutch feeling - thoughts?

With those klms I would be bracing myself for a new clutch and gearbox rebuild.

The 'sighing' to me sounds like the pilot bearing, found in the bell housing.

As for the grinding, syncros. Not cheap. To do them all I priced it out at $900 just for parts.

Craig.

Another suggestion was to change the gear box oil as a stop gap measure. I'll try that first.

Yes the gear oil should tell you whats going on. Look at the magnetic drain plug for metal mash. Good luck! As Rosco says it is time.

Ive got the same problem in 4th gear. Im also going to give it an oil change. Its helped in the past but it seems to be coming back quicker.
Only does it when the oil is warmed up
