Hey folks, I need some "technical" help. I'm repairing from the rear spring purchase/shackle mounts to the back of the frame on my '82 42. I removed the 'necessary' :hhmm: metal that was rusty but want some thoughts and opinions on welding and cutting the frame back together.
The plan is to basically sleeve the remaining u-channel with the rectangular metal. Assuming I fish-mouth the rectangular tubing to the rear of the frame, how well will this hold?
Would I be better off cutting out more metal, and butting two channel pieces together and then reinforcing them on the side walls with plate?
The truck will be very light duty (ie. driven a few days a month) strictly for rec purposes and does not have any immediate plans for heavy off-roading. When this time comes a new frame will be used.
Thanks for the help

Look for a local wheeler/welder. This individual will be very helpful and see things that you may not. Check with the local 4x4 clubs and/or off-road performance shops and parts houses. They will often be able to recommend individuals and options for a course of action.
Frame repair does require specific techniques and not every piece of steel is suited for this type of use.
Post up some pics. Perhaps, there will be enough to begin the process here. But hands on help will serve you best.

Thanks again VTcruiser60, much appreciated help.
