Hi there.
Have a land cruiser BJ 74 running with a 14B ex dyna engine.
My fear is I cannot get any parts here for the said engine.
Any other possible replacment engines I can use for the BJ 74?

A BJ74 has a 13BT normally. However, I would stick with the 14B and keep a small stock of consumable parts on hand.
There must be somewhere on the African continent that sells Dyna and Coaster parts
It shouldnt need too many parts if its set up right
Does your 14B have a turbo?

You coulD also use any other engine in the Landcruiser range such as the 2H,12HT,3B,3F but they would need the engine mounts re welded and the gearbox that came with the engine.

it all depends on what do you have easy close to you .. I would like to keep the 14B .. but if it's there another B family option .. worth a try

The 14B is a good engine to modify if they are prevalent in your region. You can usually find them in Dyna and Hino trucks. If you are lucky and have access to parts I'd modify it with a turbo. If the 14B is not all over where you are, check to see if some version of the 15B is, either turboed from the factory or the turbo intercooled version. Still in production and it tends to be available in Coaster busses. It should be an easy swap for the 14 as both are in the B family and according to the FSM share alot of components.

If you don't have access to either the engines or parts for the 14 or 15B then I would look really hard at the 1HZ. Currently in production and should have a ready stream of parts for years. In the regions where they the Coaster doesn't come from the factory with the 15B it usually comes with the 1HZ. I just took delivery of a 1HZ which I'm swapping into my 1980 BJ40. As others have said it all depends on what engines and parts are available and what you want to do with the rig.
Good luck

Hi there guys.
Thanks alot.
The 1HZ is very prevalent here in Kenya , and most recently Toyota have launched the 79series.
I have found a couple of auto shops dealing with coaster buses so I'll pass by and check em out.
Im currently contemplating changing my suspension from Robs Magic (WELCOME TO ROMAGECO) (they are way too hard) to Monroe or Old Man Emu.
What do you think would be the best choice.
