Hi there,

I was driving my 1985 BJ73 MWB home the other day, about half way home (only about 10km in) and I noticed the EGT gauge reading very high around 800C, I pulled over as soon as I could. It appears my water pump has failed and dropped most of the water. Oil has also leaked out through the head gasket below the thermostat housing and gone into the fan and as a result spraying it all over the engine bay.
I got it towed home and pulled the head off. The news isn't good and the head has a crack between the intake and exhaust valves on the first three cylinders and the fourth has a crack right across. Each pre combustion chamber is cracked too.
I am unsure if the cracks are all recent though as there is significant rust and pitting at the top two of the cylinders, and it did start very rough with some white smoke (maybe glycol burning?) could this rust be caused by water leaking into the cylinder and sitting in the cylinder over a period of time?

The engine is a 3b with an after market turbo running between 5 and 8psi. It has around 380, 000kms.

I am wanting to know could I hone the rust out of the top of the cylinders with the pistons still in the block and I am also in need of a new head for the 3b just in need of possible places to look as this is my daily driver I need it on the road ASAP.
