Bj 73 aircon issue

Hi
I'm having issues after getting my aircon regassed.
I have a 1985 bj73 so she's an old girl but
When I turn the aircon on the revs shoot up to 3,500 rpm and stay there making it pretty dangerous to drive the car.
Is this normal or can the revs be lowered somehow.

There’s an gizmo that is meant to raise the idle rpm when ac compressor is running.
The gizmo on mine does nothing and the rpm drops slightly when ac is on.
I think the idle up device is vacuum actuated.
Look for something with vacuum tubing that is attached to the throttle linkage.
It should have an adjustment screw.

AC Idle Up is what you're searching for - in progress on this myself and need to look closer at the FSM when it warms up here. Can't be much help yet as I serviced AC last summer and it works well now, but the Idle Up doesn't really affect RPM currently.
