As Mike says - replace the fuel hose. I bought mine from him. I've had no other issues but have only done 1000 miles on Bio (100%) Have you had any issues with your Dodge Cummins? What setup do you have for manufacturing your biodiesel?

Mike, I may take you up on that hose offer when I switch over... One note you may be interested in. For my fuel delivery hose from my refueling rig I used a hose similar to this (as 20 feet of 3/4" viton hose is VERY expensive). This has worked OK except that I found the OUTTER casing was a natural rubber which means any spillage causes a black gooey mess. I have since learned to keep the outside of the line as clean as possible. The inside of the line (what really matters of course) has been fine. Not sure if the line you have will have the same issue but thought I would mention it.

In terms of your question about my Dodge Jim, I never had to do anything to it except change the stock fuel filters after I started running bio (as the ruck had 150,000 miles on petro diesel and that residue had to be cleaned out). After about 3 months and 3 filter changes all has been well. I did notice the other day that the line going from my fill spout to the tank was looking a little saturated. not sure if that is from outside spillage or material incompatablility. I will be looking into that.

I get my bio from local sources and dont manufacture it myself. Here in the San Francisco Bay Area there are several distributors. Here is my page on it:

I am a sheet metal journeyman and we have been making alot of 18 gage stainless steal round duct latley and with this we have some scrap that I can play with and this is what I will be using to make my prosseser. I can rool a conical bottom for a reactor to help in the drainning and weld in a threaded fitting for a water heater elament and will probbily have a bolkhead for the top. If any of you want some thing like this just give me the diamiter & length and the location of the heater element and I will see what it will cost. ( keeping the welder happy & my boss off my back ) Brian
 
The "peak oil" thing

I'm catching this thread sort of late. I find it impressive many of you on this list are taking steps toward energy independence and helping a bit to clean up the air. I only wish it were easier for the rest of us to get or convert diesels so my lowly 60 wouldn't be such a burden on our oil supplies. That said, just wanted to comment on someone's earlier reply that oil wasn't going anywhere, stating we have plenty of it. It's obvious this isn't the case; proof is in the war in Iraq, our relations with Saudi Arabia & Iran, and the fact all of the major oil companies are pushing other facets of the market such as natural gas and wind. All of these things point to dwindling supplies, whether 50 or 100 years.

Hydrogen will be a LONG time coming and I think biodiesel/ethanol use in engines currently available, along with clean technologies, will help us move forward and still allow us the comfort and enjoyment of our beloved land cruisers.
 
A Little Fuel Tank Question?

I Posted This On The Cruiser Tech Forum Also, But I Have A 64 Fj-40 And If I Have My Tank Relined, Could I Use Biodiesel Or Diesel In It. Would It Eat Away At The Liner? Would I Have To Install A Fuel Return Spout?

What is the liner made from? If it is sold to line a diesel tank then yes - it will be OK with diesel. Bio is different though. I suggest you ask the manufacturer of the liner.

I was just going through my fuel line system to see how much I needed and all seemed easy to replace but there is one piece with fittings on either end going from the filter toward the injectors... Did you guys replace this as well?
 
Well I decided to get some Viton hose from McMaster.com (p#5119K51) and I swapped it out yesterday and filled it up with 100% biodiesel. It sure is smelling better now and seems to be running just great. For others reference I used about 5.5 feet of the Viton hose and the (somewhat messy) job, including new fuel filter and repriming, took about an hour. Pretty simple job as Jim and Mike stated.
 
BioD in a 3B?

Ok this all great, just what I want to do, but I am looking for a BJ42 with a 3B and everybody else is talking about 2Hs, 13BTs, or 1HZs. What are the thoughts on running the BD in the 3B? Should be no prob yeah?

no problem...works good i'm told and would suspect nothing but good results from that bullet proof motor...
 
Its a 3b in my BJ70 and so far its running fine (still on the first tank)...
 
The bio in a 3b should run just great -running it in in a HJ60 myself here in California
I know of a couple BJ42s for sale , been lookin myself ,could exchange links NorCal
 
I've done about 1500 miles on homemade BD now - had no problems. I was expecting the filter to clog as everyone says the bio will clean the gunk out of the tank. I suppose I must have had a very clean tank. I even put the bio in the tank when it was still 50degrees and let it slosh around. I still haven't had any gunk show up...
 
On my second tank of fuel now and I still havent had any clog problems as well. In my dodge it took about 1000 miles so Jim you may be in the clear... I have made up a page on all my biodiesel vehicle experiences and have included a pictorial write up on the fuel line swap in my BJ70. Comments welcome:

I heard that too. I know it's true also. It is a self-imposed supply that causes any price increases--think of Debeers and diamonds and why something so plentiful is so expensive.

There is a guy in my neighborhood that drives an old bus on vegetable oil. He says he collects used oil from fast food joints.
 
Ive heard the opposite - that its running out and very fast
and Big Brother knows it ,even have scientists pumping synthetic stuff back into the earth because its not only a profitable resource for us, but its the earths very lubricant for its plates-and corporations(governments) are stealing it so we can drive our cars
One things for sure its a never ending cycle
 
I saw Michael Moore being interviewed the other day - he said his next project is a documentary on the coming oil crisis.

Obviously there will be an increasing shortage which will push prices up and up. Question is, when will oil no longer be affordable?
 
biodiesel is more affordable in the long run if you make it yourself
but we are still dependant on motor oil for our engine
anyone heard anything about veggie motor oil?
would be cool!!!!!!!!!!
