hey guys.
i've been working on this project for quite some time. danny warden used to have these made by a machinist in his area but they have not been available for years.
th ese nose cones are designed to be much stronger than the original early t-case counterparts found in fj40s, 45s and 55s. the billet models will work on the orion as well of course.
i finally found somebody who's willing and able to make these in short production runs and at a reasonable rate.
the first prototype will be pretty expensive since we need to make fixtures and buy the material just to make one. but once we have a solid working prototype, the cost should come down some. right now we're guessing that they're going to be just under $300 each.
there's been a lot of talk about these for a long time. many of us have been wanting one so let's see if we can get this going. i need to know who's serious about wanting one. you would have to come up with a deposit if you want one. i can't afford to do a run of 20 and pay for them just to hope that people will come thru. so they will be built by standing pre-paid order only and in small runs of 10-20 pieces.

Transfercase... it pretty much a ring that bolts around the output for the front drive. VERY bulletproof upgrade...

No, it ain't a ring, it's a brand new HD cone that replaces your old stock, thin walled one. There are pics on here, I know Poser posted a few one time. I guess there wouldn't be any demand for a new incarnation of Warden's old billet case since we now have the Orion :meh: How bout a new run of Marlin's old 3.64 gearset for the 3 & 4 spd cases?

Georg your nose-cone saver ring works so damned good i'm not sure if i need one of those billet cones anymore, i'd buy one in a heartbeat if i break mine again though

let me clear things up a little:

these nose cones are for the early t-cases. they replace the cast aluminum front output housings on the one-piece t-cases found in fj40s,45s and 55s.

this is a completely seperate item from my nose cone saver.

they will work on an orion. even on the orion case the stock cast cone can break.

i'll try to post a pic later today.

Here's a link to the Warden cone compared to the factory nose cone.

Georg,

My dad runs a machine shop here in Huntsville, AL and we've discussed the billet nose cone and billet case that Warden made back in the day and the possibility of reproducing it. If things fall through with your current machinist or maybe interested in having an east coast builder as well, feel free to shot me a PM.

How do these bastards break most? Judging by the photo of the billet nose cone when compared to stock, I'd think right at the flanges? I haven't broken one YET, if the rings or "cone savers" work to keep them solid, that also adds to my theory. I want a full on billet one, and thought to make my own. LOTS OF WORK FOR 1 PART, on a cnc or manual machines. I could slap to gether a saver ring quick. I'd rather have a sick billet cone altogether, looks beautiful. I dont have the $ now, to many other things more importatant. I have an Orion case, and a sick stainless steel twin stick I built. I want to keep my shifters! Later down the road I'd want one (billet nose cone), I have an Idea for a "saver" I could build from 6061 t6 aluminum, 17-4 or 316 stainless scraps at the shop. Winter on the door step I may actually do it.

Is your nose cone made from a 6061 or 7075 aluminum? It is a t6 heat treated material or not?

I want to see a photo of this billet Nose Cone Saver!!!!!!! Just to see how they were built. Ask any girl the thicker the better! J.K.

We had a saying back in the seventies.

"Speed kills."

I'm just saying.

I have no car! All I have is my cruiser and a bullet bike, a downhill bike on top of it. I'm a mad man, not to toot my own horn. I most likely wont make it to 35, die young leave a good lookin corpse. I have the haggard body broken bones and scars to prove it!!

Georg's nose cone saver has been on the 55 for a year now. Seems to do the trick, but I'm still nervous after blowing a total of four nose cones out before I go the saver. Mostly what I've found is the gear thrust from the helical output gears blow the cone off the flanges, break the bolts, or pull the threads out of the case. That billet one looks like it would do the trick for sure.

those two things can still happen with the billet cone......the nose cone save has held up for me for over a year now too
