I'm planning to visit Big Sur for a weekend in November. Anybody have recommendations what to do? Thanks in advance.

check about the fires. They're still on. Friend had to evacuate a few days ago. And some stuff may have been burned to ugly...

Just camped in Big Sur last weekend at Pfeiffer St. Park campground.Great place, huge campgrounds, look& try to book the river spots at: reserveamerica.com.Place is always full on the weekends.
Or try 40 min.south of there at Kirk Creek campground or Plasket Creek.Great spots,Kirk has an ocean view from all the camp sites, but is just off hwy.1.Right next to Plasket is a dirt road(forset service type)that goes way up into the mountains. There are some good 4WD roads off that main road that are way fun.Check out the book by Tony Huegel;California Coast Byways-great book!
Don't know much about the new fire, just herd a little today on the radio.Saw some fire remains right off hwy.1 & at the campground. It was burning up down there this summer.

I second Kirk Creek!! Spot#9 if you can get it, that's our favorite!! Right across Hwy 1 from the campground is Naciemento Furgeson Road, it's dirt and you can take it almost up to Cone Peak , then hike the rest of the way -5000+ elev. with great views. My Brother in-law has been up there when it's snowing!! Cone Peak is Trip#20 in Tony Huegel's "California Coastal Byways" book.

This what Kirk Creek gets you. An ocean view... (I forget which site..but it is higher on the site.)

Pfifer is also a very nice camp ground. IF you surf, you can't beat Sand Dollar Campround for easy access to a great beach break (heavy shark vive however. :) )
