Big Bend and Terlingua in the fall? (1 Viewer)

Really doesnt seem to be a time where its not going to be close to anything so I say just set it for those dates and let people start planing. Just my 2 cents though.

I agree.... there will always be conflicts. I don't see a whole lot of people wanting to go regardless of the dates we pick.

Its beautiful down there and a awesome place to get away from the daily grind. At night you can see every star and the satilites too! (Brett has this green laser to point them out) Brett is an awesom tour guide down there espicially in the park its self! If you have been wanting to go down to this part of the world this would be the time to go. Brett has been going down there for years Chris Smith has been going down there his whole life and owns property, and Ive been going at least twice a year since 2004. Should be a well prepared and equiped group! Dont miss out!!

I am very tempted to attend this. The photos of the area look Beautiful. Since I will not be able to attend the Roundup due to Date Conflicts, This is a very anticing trip. I have never been there before, and We are always up for new locations to see.

I would say tentatively count us in for this trip, just gotta figure the $ to get there.

Todd, I hope to have the trailer finished by then, what is the camping like down there?

I dont know how many are going yet and if we are camping out or renting cabins or staying at somones place more than likely a combination of all three. It can be warm it can be freezing you have to be prepared for all!!!!

Yeah...what he said. If you want to know more about the area, google Terlingua, Terlingua Ranch, Terlingua ghost town, and Big Bend national park. Lots o good stuff there.

If you want to know Terlingua info, Chris (TinStar) is the guy to talk with. He knows all the Terligua back roads and where the best sights are. If we combine a tour of the park and a tour of the Terligua area, it should make a really nice trail driving trip.

Big Bend

My friend Kirk and I made a trip to Big Bend a couple of years ago. We wen in May and it was way to hot to enjoy. I think Feb would be a good time of year to go. We drove Black Gap road and it was nothing any stock rig could handle. There are some nice primitive camp sites along the River Road but as the Park guide book warns there are "travelers" in the area. Read as illegals and bandits. Camping would be fun in a group and properly armed. Count me in I would love to go back. Mike

Sorry to barge in on your club, but I have a few questions.

My Aunt and Uncle are the campground hosts at the park for the winter and they invited us out for Christmas. I'd love to go. What can I expect? Is there enough to keep us occupied for a week? Should I take the Cruiser at 16 mpg or my wife's van @ 22mpg and then use my Uncle's Rubicon? Is the wheeling good enough to offset the extra cost?

That depends on if you want to spend an extra $0.054 per mile on gas, or about $50 for the whole 900 mile trip.

More like 1600 miles round trip. Still, it's only a hundred bucks. The Cruiser would be a much better choice.

As far as meeting up, your trip is after I'm there. If I go, it will be over Christmas.

Been down there many times , and in need of Big Bend fix. I can probably make it..
