Bg44k causing engine problems + check engine light??

Your mechanic is going to say to replace plugs and coils.
It is misfiring, this can cause damage to the engine if driven for extended periods of time. One tank of gas will not do long term harm.
Something that can happen when you add a can of a really good cleaner is it dislodges carbon from the intake valves, this carbon then collects and fouls the spark plugs.
If your spark plugs were at the end of their life this will be pronounced because the spark they produce is weaker and cannot overcome the deposits
Also, depending on the cleaner used, it does not burn as completely because it is designed to stick around and clean the piston's, it cannot do this if it is burned off. This will also cause mis fires with worn spark plugs, again because they cannot produce a strong enough spark to overcome this.

The only way to get all of the 44K out of the tank is by burning it off or dilution.
I would take it on the highway and run the hell out of it in 3rd gear, then once the low fuel light came on I'd top it off with a Top Tier fuel.

I used to drive tanker truck and haul HAZMAT for waste recycling and disposal, you'd be surprised at how water is sperated from waste oil in the truck and what is done with that water. Knowing specific gravity for different fluids was park of my job.
Short answer, water is heavier than oil so it settles to the bottom of the truck, you then drain off said water into the city sanitation sewer (oil free) and then send the oil off to be made into brand new oil.
Diesel, gasoline, kerosene...all are petroleum based but have different specific gravitas and can be transported and then sperated, think of them as a layered Jell-O dessert.
That is also how they send them down a pipeline, just close the diesel valve and then open the gasoline valve on the same pipeline. Do the same on the other end to get what you want. Open diesel valve...

Thank you for the very informative post! You are a wealth of knowledge.
I replaced the spark plugs 1 yr ago (approx 23k miles) w/ Denso spark plugs. What fuel do you recommend generally Chevron Premium, or are all Premium the same (Costco for instance)?

Your plugs should be fine then as long as you used Iridium, standard cooper spark plugs only last maybe 50k.
Home | Top Tier Gas
I use Costco 99% of the time, it is a TopTier fuel, but any TopTeir fuel is fine, try to use a high volume gas station that is going to sell a lot of premium so that you're not buying old gas.

yes iridium. If you have the time to answer some questions, what wear and tear parts should I have him look at on a 00 LX w/ 133k miles? I have a pregnant wife driving this car and really wanna avoid all headaches. I realize its a 20yr old car. Last service I did was 110k miles and it was timing belt, water pump, cooling fluid, spark plugs, tensioner, and brake pads. The previous owner replaced all the AHC suspension right before the sale. Other than that I don't know how well they took care of the car. Any parts u recommend me mentioning to him to look over? He's a great guy and a family friend for 10yrs but idk how well versed he is in cruisers.

This is a fun youtube channel, he tries tons of different produces and you can watch them burn in the see through cyclinder head.

A car is a car is a car... I baseline everything I buy used, that means I replace all fluids and filters, plugs and spark plug wires if there are any. Engine coolant, thermostat, inspect the brakes, remove the spare tire, make sure the spare tire mechanism works, check the date on the spare, overall condition and PSI of the spare as well as make sure the jack works and the tire tool fits.

The spare I check every 6mo from then on and because I live where road salt is used heavily so I also wash the spare to slow corrosion. I replace spare tires once they are 20yrs old, I use my spare tires only as spares I do NOT rotate my tires and I sure as hell would never rotate my spare into the mix. It is a spare.

Lube everything that moves, hinges, latches, locks. Twice a year. I use bicycle chain lube, thick enough not to drip away, heavy enough to not wash away and does not attract dirt.

Full service carwash with undercarriage wash once a month no matter the weather.

You have a chipped key which needs to be programed to make the truck's run, go to the hardware store and have non chipped spares made, zip tie one to the underside of the truck out of sight but reachable laying on your back, this way when you lock your keys in the truck you can get them out but if someone were to find it they cannot steal your truck.
You just twist the key until the zip tie breaks.

Replace your heater T's, do this now if you have not already. They are on the firewall, they supply coolant to the rear heater, they are plastic, they get old and brittle and break, you will loose all coolant, you will overheat, if you keep driving you will destroy your engine.

Have the mechanic check your charcoal canister, and your throttle body. I had mine go bad with the drive by wire and it put the truck into limp mode, displaying the same lights as on your dash.
