Has anyone gone from one to the other tire and come up with an accurate fuel economy difference, preferably done by GPS? I'm interested in a % change + or - from one to the other. I have the 255's right now which aren't suited to my driving circumstances, and am contemplating going to something like the Bridgestone 285-75-16 AT Revo. I know about the difference in diameter, but am wondering how many of you out there have done this swap and if so, what was your result?

what kind of 255s do you have?

edit, never mind I see in the title.

Mts seem to be physically bigger than Ats of the same diameter so the difference in diameter between tire types needs to be adjusted for rather than just nominal tires size. I would also expect better mileage from an AT tire tread.

I can tell you that after adjusting for tire diameter, my 285 BFG ATs subtract maybe 1 mpg compared to stock street tires. I say maybe because I am not even sure it is that much.

if you are in vancouver and want to sell your MTs shoot me an PM as I might be interested.

What don't you like about your 255's. I am considering purchasing that size?

martin- the gas mileage is negligable. i chart all my trips w/ all different tires (i live in tx so it takes me 300-500 miles just to get out of my state), and have had no significant change in any, from the stock tires to 33's (the largest i've had)285/75/16. go with the tire you want and you'll be happy.

medicbob- 255's are a great tire!! if you don't do major rock crawling & don't require huge, wide tires, get this size! can't recomend enough. they are a tall, skinny tire.. still 33's! check out a lot of the aus expedition trucks

Thanks for the info

It rather looks like the fuel economy difference is negligible then. I'm still considering a change because of the noise factor. I do some mild off road stuff but mainly not. So I don't need a M/T tire. As far as I can tell these tires have done very, very little off road and look to be in very good shape.
