Looking for the best way to drain the power steering fluid on my BJ74 and then bleed the system. The FSM says fill the reservoir and turn the wheel lock to lock 4 times. Any other suggestions for bleeding and also the best way to drain the system?

Not sure if this is all that great way of doing it,but I drain the reservoir with a vacuum extractor at work ,fill it up with fresh fluid, drive it around the block a few times and drain it again,I do this about 3-4 times and usually ends up clean.

I empty the reservoir with a big syringe. Then disconnect the return hose at the reservoir and place it in a clear plastic bottle.
Start engine and pour in new fluid watching the clear plastic bottle. When I see clean fluid coming into the bottle ,its done;)
You need an assistantt to rock the wheel a lttle while filling.

Great, thanks guys!

I'm looking to replace the two main hoses as well since the ends seem to look as they are starting to break down a bit. Guess that happens after almost 20 years.

Hi Peter, I guess you could do what Rosco said and use a TURKEY BAISTER it should work
