Best way to get 3" lift on '04 4Runner?

I've got an 04 T4R V6 Limited, its my daily driver. Finally paid in full so its time to start the mods. I want 3" lift (good for dune driving in OBX and snow drifts in ME) without needing to change too much.
- Are spacers a good way to go?
- Are Cornfed good to use?
- Will 3" let me keep existing shocks and control arm set up, etc?

Anything I should tell my mechanic to look out for or ask him to do when the work is done?

I'm looking to avoid extra fabrication work, and want the truck to basically stay the same for now... just need the extra clearance - the 4th gen are the low-riders of all the gens.

Really depends on how much money you want to spend. If you are not going to be off-roading much, spacer will probably work for you. Personally I would look at OME suspension.

If you're gonna lift it that much, then the 2nd thing you're gonna go is slap on the BIGGEST meats you can find. Then, poo poo the engine for not pulling the truck around the way you want it to, or it did.

You need a RevTech...

Start small, say 1.5". It's adjustable and cheap. 3" is too much lift at one time IMO. It will turn the handling you are used to now, completely around. And I personally would stay away from the ol' standby, the cheap spacer lifts.

Thanks Sid, although I won't go too crazy at first and part of me wants to do the quick the easy (spacers), i should probably hold off. I'm still getting up to speed on this stuff and want to do it right... incrementally, as it seems is most budget-friendly and wise to do... working up to a bigger lift when i can replace it with another daily driver.
This hurts, but i don't know what OME means... can you explain?

Hilux - Thanks for the words of wisdom... of course i didn't consider bigger tires = slower response. those will come a little later, but maybe now after i put a blower on it... ahh such big hopes. I checked out Downey Off Road... good stuff, a little bigger than my knowledge base but it had 4Runner specific pages, so i'll print them out and share with my mechanic (who's done plenty of Land Cruisers, just no 4Runners... yet).

Don't be bashfull asking about terms used on this board. I lear new crap all the time from these guys. They tend to chime in from experience...both good and bad.
I'll be contacting my bud that lover runners. He is all over these things and will have an opinion as well.
Sounds like spacers are the cheap route. But I am guessing a nicer way to go would be a fresh suspension upgrade to attempt to keep the "close" to original ride feel. Know that you will lose some power with the bigger meats. But that can be bumped a bit over time as well. Just not cheaply.

You can also simply buy an old fj40 and stop messing with the daily driver.....But that's for another thread ay!
