So where's the best port for installing the sending unit in a FJ62 for a mech. unit ? I was thinking of using the same port that the stock sending unit uses does anyone know if they make an adapter to do this
Are you talking about an adapter to make the new guage fit instead of the old one then yes. If you want to run both then you need a T adapter. It wont give as true a reading as getting the head into the coolant stream but it will work. I will see if I can find the adapter size for replacing the guage. I know my guage kit came with several adapters and on one of those worked.
I know this is correct for the oil gauge and i am fairly sure its correct for the temp unit. My gauge came with several adapters so I didnt have to buy one.
1/8 is pretty correct for the oil pressure sender, but the temp senders are bigger...
Also, the temp sender for my Autometer was longer than stock. I thought an inch of pipe would work as a spacer, but ended up putting it an un-used port on my water pump...'cause I don't have the oilcooler plumbed for water...
Use the same port as stock, you will need a piece of 1" pipe to screw into the head long enough for the sending unit to fit into, then a reducer to fit one of the fitting that comes with the quage. Just take all the pieces from your kit to the hardware store with you and keep trying things until it works. I always use the brass stuff.
