Anyone know of any 'hot' deals on OME kits online?

I am considering going with the Med/Med kit 1986 FJ60

- Shackles
- Bushings
- Steering Dampener (Required?)
- Shocks
- Springs
- U - Bolts

Thanks

Jake

Call Cruiser Outfitters. You will need longer shackles or you will invert the rear ones. The best setup is to move the shackle mounts inboard and run a five or six inch shackle front and rear. This makes for the best ride and more articulation. This is the voice of experience here.

Just commenting on the 'required??' steering dampener, and your 'lot's of miles' in your sig line.

Doesn't that kinda answer your question, right there? Unless of course, the current one happens to be actually somewhat current.
I'll 2nd calling Kurt. They are a great tech resource for parts they sell.

Cruiser Outfitters

Funny, just got off the phone with Kurt from Cruiser Outfitters. He sounds like a good guy.

He suggested that I shoot one of my shackles with some PB Blaster to try and get it free - if it comes loose, than they can be reused.

I think that I will opt for the light/medium setup. I really only plan on welding up some light bumpers for the front and rear.

Thanks,
jake

Don't use the stock shackles unless you like the idea of having them flip up towards the vehicle and lock up your springs. It's not fun. You NEED longer ones. It seems you have a welder, just make some.

Kit

Spoke with crazy88 - very nice guy.

His kit was sold :frown: .... to me :)

I will be running the kit with 31's - they are brand new, so switching to 33's is not an option - will it look funny?

any pictures of OME lifts with 31's?

Thanks

I run mine with 29s on road, 33s off. Looks a bit like a skateboard with the 29s, but I can get 16 MPG with them on... As you can see, the 29s kick up more mud than the 33s ;)

31's

I think that 31's will look alright?

Will upgrade to 33's when these wear out.

Have you confirmed that you get better mileage with the smaller tires? In my experience the opposite is true. I get better mileage with 33"s (fewer engine revs/mile).

Briefly I had 31" tires on after my med/med OME install and I can tell you that it didn't look terribly disproportionate... actually, it was just fine. However, I do think 33" looks better. Shortly after the suspension upgrade I did have new 33" BFGs installed. They're a much better fit with the H55F tranny and 4.11 gearing (or is it 4.10?) combination.

I've only run the 33"s with one tank of gas, and it looked like I was on my way to about half my usual milage. Mind you these are true 33" bias TSLs, and they sound like a bush plane on asphalt.... Had a hard time keeping highway speed up with them on, the engine just works way too hard. This is with an A440F, which has a taller overdrive than the H55F. Stock 4.10/4.11 gearing.

I have the OME med/med setup on my 87 FJ60 and stuck with the stock shackles for over 2 years. I wheel the crap out of this rig and never once had an issue like you speak of.

Just say'n ;)

This is mine with 31x10.50x15 Just installed the lift 2 weeks ago. My tires are almost done, so when they wear out I'll be switching to 33's. IMO it's a matter of personal preference on the looks.

Hmm, guess my 12H-T doesn't seem to mind pushing 33" rubber :) True, your overdrive gearing is 0.77, mine is 0.848. And I think the BFG A/T actually measure 32.5" (is that correct?).

Doesen't look bad

That doesn't look bad at all - I was really worried that it would have a 'skateboard-like' look to it!

Chances are your shocks are limiting your drop. I flipped my rear shackles a couple of times before making longer ones.

you are correct about the shocks limiting my travel. I noticed that just after the install. Kind of bothered me. What bugged me the most about this is that these were the shocks that came with the OME. I would think that they would sell you a longer shock with that kit.

Some day i will look into longer shocks, and at that point I may need these longer shackles you speak of ;)
