Subject basically says it all.
I have done a couple spray jobs like our camper we sprayed with latex of all things, my axles, and my trailer, all of which turned out excellently. I'll post pics next thread..
I have a brand new (my third so far) Harbor Freight HVLP gun and I actually feel pretty confident in my ability to use it and get good lines, hopefully no orange peel etc... I know it is a Harbor Freight but even on autobody101 forums where there are lots of pros they get a decent rep. And finally I have a pretty clean truck to begin with. I am going to fix the couple little small rust spots and get it to bondo'd stage...
Ideally I really want to keep it under $200-$300 for the cost of the paint if possible. It is also a 'good looking wheeler' in that I am OK with two stage but it doesn't need to be perfect, but I want no runs.. To the point where I was considering single stage but have moved away from this. I want to paint the car a bright alpine white-like color...
I also know a ton of local Mexican guys, all good guys, and sort of as a friend deal a friend who runs a body shop said he would do a guaranteed no runs pretty decent two stage for $600 if I did all (I mean ALL) prep work like removing all trim etc... They would do the masking...
And finally I have a friend who is a crotchety old man who is a major PITA to deal with but he has a full paint booth at his place that I could probably talk my way into using... He and friends would be around to help me prep and give me pointers but they are also way higher budget than I am particularly for this job... But the thing I want the most is the truck to simply look good... I was also considering spraying it in my shop but I have trouble with good heating in the winter and its hard to keep it over 50 degrees on a good day.
Here is the truck. There are about 3 major spots on it where I will repair some rust that's shown up. That is the least of my concerns I think or I know I can repair this easily enough and that it will last provided I do OK work with the filler...
So these are my options.. I'm open to input on brands and models to look for... We have a ton of local paint supply shops from PPG, Dupont etc... It sounded like the dupont sprayed with better coverage due to more solids and overall was more durable... I'm not sure if I can get any of this in that more inexpensive category..
Here is the truck. The color I want to paint it is a bright alpine white. Photo is from about 1.5 years ago and it is has been sitting so it's not nearly as clean...
I've also read about different cleaning and the sanding process. I would like recommendaitons on primer and types and brand and even models all the way to the clear coat to do this nice and cheap...
thanks guys as always...
