Best course of action - seat paint/repair (1 Viewer)

I received my very clean 06 LX470 from Arizona today.

In the photos I saw there was some minor wear on the front seat bottoms. The front seat backs and the rear seats looked totally fine. The sales person said they offer a leather restoration at the Bell Lexus dealership. I asked what that was, and he said it was basically what sounded like color matched angelus acrylic leather paint, painted over the leather.

I quickly declined this service. The LX arrived today and not only are the front seat bottoms painted, but the front seat backs and 2nd row seats are painted as well.

Any suggestions on how to deal with this? My plan was to see the seats in person, and if they were in rough shape I’d order some Lexus seat bottoms. Problem solved. Now I’ve got a pretty large problem on my hands.

I believe the discussion about the “leather restoration” was a phone conversation so no documented email trail.

Did you pay for the service? If not I fail to see the problem, since you planned on replacing the bottoms anyway. Trying to get money out of the dealership after the sales agreement is signed is tough. I guarantee this was an "as is" sale, and if anything the dealership would argue they gave you a value adder at no expense. All modern automotive leather has an acrylic coating. Drive the truck.

I don’t see what the “pretty large problem” is, how much was the service if you had decided to pay for it? I think mine had something similar on the seat bottoms when I got it 10 years ago but it’s slowly worn off. Can you post photos?

Lots of acrylic paint leather solutions out there. None of them are permanent. I used Seat Doctor on mine, looks ok, kicks the problem down the road for a year or two.

These paints are perfect for dealerships because they make an old seat look nearly new at the time of sale.

I doubt they harmed (or fixed) anything.
