I just wanted to get some ideas for next weekend for the best camp spot say 4-5 hours within Tucson. We have a unicorn free weekend (first one in a few..years) with no kids. So we can actually do some more technical driving with no babies in the car, we will be taking the 80.

I second that. Great trail, great camp, just needs you and yours.

Will it be too hot at that elevation?

Not really very different from Tucson. The camp site has tons of shade and is one of my favorite campsites anywhere. This time of year nights should be nice. There might still be water in Turkey Creek, but there will be some for sure down the road at Aravaipa.

Have any of these camp grounds been opened yet? I was going to camp today, I contacted the Douglas rangers they said any actual campsites are still closed. Also fire ban is still in effect. Just not camping without a fire.

I am always looking for a good camping spot. Last one I went to was bear cannyon/rucker camp ground. They are in a nature preserve and have water/hiking.

All National Forests in AZ and NM have fire bands until June 30th.

Think the forest is starting to open some campgrounds but up on the rim they are going to be closed thru Memorial Day weekend at least.

Edit: not sure if this applies to Apache Sitgreaves National Forest. Live in Coconino National Forest and always getting emails from the forest service.
Dispersed camping is allowed but established campgrounds are closed. Stage one restrictions are in effect.
