As i bet most of you have figured out by now, I've been rebuilding/whatever an old Bellevue winch.
The manual brake put me in a BAD situation this past week (rolling backwards down the final ledge of slickrock), and I want to get it worked out before the next ride.
It has new friction material on it- friction is not the problem.
I am using a new, OEM control cable. (came with it).
The cable works fine to lock the winch, but I cannot get it to release the brake, so whenever my winch monkey (atl zj) tries to spool cable out, it takes about 10 min to explain the brake, and then they pull the brake lever out so hard the cable comes loose from the lever, and I hence lose braking.
This would all be a non-issue if i could get the brake control to work properly.
I know a number of you have these winches- any clues? Thanks!
