bed length

The two main bed lengths you would be interesting are around regular length 6'5" or so and long 8' something. The long beds are rare and highly prized. Hard to pry out of somebody's hands. Then there is the job of finding a topper that will fit them. In later production years they dropped the long bed and called the regular length be the long bed. I think extended cabs only came with the shorter bed which is under 6'? I'm not positive on that.

Somewhere there are posts with the actual lengths in them.

thanks
the 6'5" would work for me. Any idea which years/models that would be?

Pretty much any year regular cab pickup...

1989-95

The short bed/standard bed is the same thing and 6" long. The long bed is 7" long, 6" longer on each side of the wheel well than a standard bed. The long beds are less common, at least up here in AK. I think I have seen a 4cyl x-cab long bed once.

I am sure it would not be too hard to find a toper for a long bed if you are shopping new, used may be harder.

I am talking 1989-1995 pu here but I think first gen Tacoma's are the same, I know the short bed is at least, and this probably holds true for early pickups too.

I think the only 8' bed I have seen is on an early 1982 long bed pickup, but it may have been 7'. You probably have to go to a new full size to get an 8' bed.

If you can afford one the newer Tacoma's are really nice and bigger than the hilux and gen 1 Tacoma's.

You could always sleep at an angle in a standard bed PU.

You may be better off building a bed and drawers for you Land cruiser and sleeping in that. Check out the expedition section for more ideas on this.

I will post a picture of my sleeping set up in the pack of my truck soon. For now here is my fishing rig to make you jellos.:flipoff2:
