I posted this in the tire and wheel forum but thought I would add it here since its about my 100 Series.

Hey Gents,
I have a quick question for any of you that run beadlocks. I recently acquired Hutchinson's Monster Rock wheels and mounted them with the BF Goodrich TA KO2. I did the work myself and prior to getting them balenced I saw online a picture of an inner rubber insert that some guys were using on their beadlocks. So my question is...Do I need to run the rubber inserts? OR is this more of a double beadlock? I was thinking the rubber insert was more for run flat scenarios and that the clamping down of the spilt rim onto the bead created the lock itself. Some of the videos I saw refered to the rubber insert as the bead lock and that it lock the inner and outer wheel.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The rubber insert is what sandwiches the two sides of the tire against the wheel. This is what is locking the beads of the tire. Normal beadlocks the tire is sandwiched between the wheel and an outer ring, not split in half like the Hutchinsons. If you want to air down on the trails to get more traction you will want to get those inserts or you may lose a tire. If you don't plan on airing down and your wheels are holding air I don't see why you need the rubber inserts. They just wouldn't be beadlocks anymore

You will be fine without the inserts, unless you air down below 10PSI the bead should hold just fine. The rock monster rims are a single bead lock, the outer bead is clamped to the wheel with a locking ring. In most cases this will hold the tire in place even if the inner bead breaks. If you do break the bead and loose air most times all it takes is getting the wheel in the air and filling it to reseat the bead. Worst case you might need to run a ratchet strap around the tire to compress it a bit.

Do your wheels have the retaining humps on both the inner and outer rim halves? If not, then I wouldn't even try to run them w/o the inserts.

Interesting...I attached a picture of the rim but the quality was bad, I will try and take a better one later.

Much appreciated

You need the inserts/sleeves. They also offer runflat inserts, like the PO ran, but I don't think you want those.

What am I missing? The illustrations I saw looked like a standard single beadlock wheel.

Do appreciate all your help guys. Looks like I need to find some inserts now! Have a great day

Post some pics when your done pleeeaaase. I'd love to see them on a 100.

Hey Aaron- how did these turn out? Ive been looking but there isnt much out there for 100 series beadlocked wheels in my price range.

Just looking for the future- got a few other items to do first.
