Hey everyone, so decided today I’m taking the family to the beach this weekend but wasn’t sure where all to go that is fishing/ swim friendly. Wanted to see if anyone has any suggestions right now thinking about Carolina beach, but maybe there’s somewhere semi less crowded areas to go fish and swim at.

Ft. Fisher is where I'd recommend if you want to get away from the crowds.

Agreed. FT Fisher is just a little further south. Softer sands and fewer people. Air down. Plus you have the aquarium right there to escape the heat or storm if you need.

Ferry to Old Baldy is on our list for next time we go to that area.

If you want to drive another hour and then take a 2:45 ferry, you could do Ocracoke.

I looked into Ft. Fisher but since the car were taking isn’t 4wd not gonna be able to get out there. Might get out to the aquarium one day if are close enough south

But! Now that’s on my list to go out to once the cruiser is up.

another plug for Ft Fisher when you can make it there

Maybe I can convince my wife to smash all of us into the Tacoma...... :hmm:

That's what I had in mind when I suggested it :D Worth the cramped trip, believe me!

It has officially been requested!

Well see what she says I mean I did say I would get a hotel instead of trying to make her 2 toddlers and a 7week old tent camp so maybe I have some leverage

Green light! going to Ft Fisher this weekend going to fish and hang out!

Thanks for pointing this place out to me everyone looking forward to this trip. Plus now that we can drive on the beach no carrying a bunch of crap from the car!

Pretty sure you will need a permit to drive in the beach. $15 daily or $25 weekend. You might be able to purchase one at the entrance but I can’t remember.

Yeah I called they said $25 since it’s the eeekend and I can get one from the welcome center in the morning.

Plan is to drive out to Ft Fisher beach area around 5-6am spend the day there and then go back to the hotel and Sunday we’ll go to a beach closer to the hotel.

Taking a few fishing rods and going to catch something good!

Also be the Tacoma’s first trip not on pavement since I’ve owned it

Bald Head Island, if you are looking for quiet and away from crowds. We used to rent a house there every year when the kids where young, mainly because it is so secluded that the we had no kids worry. Only bikes and golfcarts on island. If you have never been there its worth a visit. What we did is waited until October and rented a house for a long weekend, rates go way down by then. That way we tested the place at a reasonable rate. Kids and wife loved (I hate beach) so we rented there for 10 years in a row during summer time.

Very quiet, you can be on the beach and see a dozen people, walk for miles and see no one, and there is a lot of fishing on the frying pan shoals. Not the place to go if you are an extrovert, the lack of sounds will drive you nuts.

I'm with you Izzy - not a fan of beeches, but that sounds about as good as it gets.

Give me a mountain home with a stream and a view :)

Anyhoo . .wrong post/thread for that . . .

Move to Tahoe and have both

I already am! This is as close to pismo beach back in California as I have been in close to 10 tears I think at least for being able to just drive and then pick a spot on the beach.

We were looking at finding something in the off season to go do. That sounds pretty awesome though I think we’ll have to look into it thanks for the suggestion on actually getting a house there.
