So, my original battery finally died on me last night. The truck wouldn't start, and a puff of smoke came off my extremely corroded negative terminal. I picked up a Die Hard gold, as we can't get the platinums here, and I didn't have time to get one from the states. Anyway, I swapped batteries, and when tightening down the negative terminal, the nut started spinning, now I can't get the the nut off, or make it tight enough. Do I need to replace the terminal, or does anyone have another suggestion? How difficult is it to replace the terminal, and is there a particular kind I should go for? I know it sounds simple, but I want to make sure that everything is as high quality, and electrically sound, as possible.

You might consider a military type terminal or go back to OEM.

What difference can I expect in the military terminals?
My boat needs new terminals as the corosion ate through.
They last and last...

Cables attach with 3/8" diameter lugs...crimp with a good tool.

Use a corrosion preventative goop, available where you get the terminals.

With the proper lugs and connections the military terminals are almost bullet proof. The OEM terminals are lightweight but get the job done.

Thanks for the input guys. I ended up having to go with some standard replacement terminals for now, but I'm going to replace them with some of those military terminals, when I can get some, and have a bit more time to do some work. I'm going to replace the cables as well, as the corrosion is running a few inches up the cable. My friend, who owns and works on tug boats, said he'd never seen cables so swollen from corrosion. That's saying a lot, you can imagine how much corrosion he deals with, working on the tugs.
