I am installing a dual battery system in the HJ60 ute over the next week sometime...But I dont want 2 batteries in the front end.

Is it advisable to put one in the cab?

and if so....which one?

I have heard that you lose too much power for the winch if the power cable is too long.

Which battery would you put in the cab? if any?

If you do put a battery in the cab which I would not do then make sure it is a sealed battery like a optimum. A regular bettery can give off acid and fumes which can be bad in the cab. In the fj60's you can easily mount a extra battery on the drivers side. There is not room on the other side to mount another one? Why not put the other battery up front?

The HJ60 is 24V. Anyway or anywhere you put the second battery, it should be in serie.

The best place to put battery is... under the hood ;)
