I have a M 416 trailer and would like to be able to mount three or four Group 27/29 batteries. Has anyone done such a thing?

Not sure what your specific needs are but two 6 volt golf cart batteries will give you about double the amp hours of two group 27/29 batteries... plus they are cheaper(costco/sams club) and a little lighter. Although they are individually bigger, two 6 volts are going to require a lot less space than 3 or 4 of the group 27/29 batts

Go for the 145 reserve.. try napa too they carry the 6 volt golf cart batteries too..

Thanks good to know . I would have to wire the batteries in a series pos to neg. Would the total amp hours be the the sum of the amp hours of each battery?
You would also need a 4 battery bank charger. What are you hoping to run off those batteries a microwave?

Hmmmm... I realized I was wrong in saying two 6 volts golf cart batts will give you double the amp hours of two group 27/29 batteries. The 6 volts will give more amp hours but not double.
6v Golf cart = roughly 220 amp hours.
Group 27 = roughly 90 amp hours.
With batteries wired in a series, you add the voltage not the amp hours...
For example, a pair of 6v golf cart batteries with 220amp hours each will give you 220 amp hours of 12 volt power.
A pair of 12volt, group 27 batteries with 90 amp hours each will give you 180 amp hours of 12 volt power ... when wired in parallel fashion.
I was going to run two 6 volt golf cart batteries in my M416 but decided to use one AMG group 31 battery. The benefits of the AMG battery is that they are sealed and can handle the abuse and articulation that comes with off roading. The one I have has about 110 amp hours and cost about $245.

It is a AGM "absorbed glass mat" not AMG as i stated before. The one I have is a Deka battery. I got the battery and a aluminum box from Adventure Trailers. Same set up they run.

Your batteries mount best on the back side of the tongue up against the trailer body, easy wiring, and go with a group 31 or two Optimas. If you opt for the optimas TRICKLE charge them only. Use a toyota FJ40 battery box asvailable from Spectre off road in Chatsworth Calif. Keep them open to the air, or if you must have them concealed VENT the box. Experience here is my best offer.

If I go the 6 volt battery method wired in a series, does the amperage of the double like the voltage? I saw 6 volt nateries at Sams that were rated at 210 amps . Alsowould the battires be charged using 12 volts or 6 volts?
series you add the voltage. In series you would charge at 12v. (6v plus 6v=12)
Parallel you add the amperage. You would charge at 6V
Parallel you add the amperage. You would charge at 6V

Price out the group 31. Interstate dealer cost is only $129.00
Weight is the enemy with batteries..
FWIW, I talked to the battery supplier at a West Marine, he was in there restocking the shelves with high end marine batteries. I asked him about durability, and he said go AGM (absorbed glass mat) hands down. He see's 3:1 return ratio of non to AGM style batteries.
